Cotton Ball Christmas Trees

December 6, 2012 By Meegan 23 Comments

When I was a young girl we made Cotton Ball Christmas Trees for a “Blue Bird”activity.  (Were YOU in Blue Birds, too?) These trees look great and are a perfect craft for kids and adults alike.  Today I want share how to make one.  You are gonna love how easy and cute this is.  I promise.

*This post was updated with more clear instructions and pictures-October 2025

You will need:

REAL cotton balls (synthetic cotton balls don’t spread as easily)

Styrofoam cone

corsage pins

sequins.

Place the corsage pin through the sequin hole and then through the cotton ball. The pin MIGHT “stick” a little, but keep trying.

Tips: I used a 6 inch cone.  I “spread out” the cotton balls a little bit.

Because it looked too bulky and you couldn’t see the sequin.

I also didn’t push the pin all the way in, so you could see the shiny sequin.  Easy?

Yep, it is that easy!

Use any color sequins to match your decorations. I chose red, green and silver. Alternating in a pattern.

BUT, YOU do whatever YOU want. All the same colors, various colors without a pattern. Do what YOU like.

Using the pattern of red, green then silver, the first row is done.

On the second row, I switched the pattern up, so the colors and cotton balls didn’t aline.

And continuing to alternate colors on each row.

For the top, I chose to use the least used color sequin. Silver.

The finished look would look lovely with a grouping of various sizes and colors, too.

I think the cotton ball Christmas trees would be fun for the grand kiddos to make, don’t you?

As well as the Popsicle Stick trees.

I hope you enjoyed this simple and easy craft.  Let me know if you make some-I would love to see them!

I also made a Cotton Ball Snowball. Two as a matter of fact.

Cotton Ball Snowballs

Can you tell I REALLY like to use my Christmas cuties for staging my Christmas decorations?

AND, also a Rustic Cotton Ball Wreath.

I love creating and using what I have to make fun and easy projects like Cotton Ball Christmas Trees.

Thanks for joining me today. It’s always good to have you here.

I love it! I have been trying to think of a way to make a cute little tree for my 2 1/2-year-old’s “Winter Wonderland Table” that I put together for her, and I think this is a great idea! I’ll just have to be sure she doesn’t try to pull the pins out! If I make one and blog about it, I will link back to you. Thanks so much for sharing, I found you via the Made U Look linky :)
