DIY Vintage Book Page Pinwheel

June 12, 2014 By Meegan 5 Comments

Happy Thursday everyone!  It’s a great week full of Summer temps and activities.  I had a blast sharing my DIY Vintage Book Page Pinwheel with the grandkiddos when they were here last week.  They are SO easy to make AND they REALLY work!

You first saw the DIY Vintage Book Page Pinwheels a few days ago with my Easy July 4th Party Buffet.  All this week is the Red, White, and Blue Inspiration Blog Tour with 16 of the most creative people I know.  I hope you have been following along for all the 4 of July ideas you could ever want. Look here for all the details.

Red White and Blue Inspiration

When I showed you my July 4th Party Buffet, I told you I would show you how to make your own DIY Vintage Book Page Pinwheel.  It’s easy peasy and looks festive on any Summer table.

These little cuties are so fun to make.  You can make them with your kids, grandkiddos or even the adults have fun making them as well.

DIY Vintage Book Page Pinwheel

I took a page out the same 1949 vintage dictionary that I used to make a July 4th Book Page Wreath. I cut a 4″ X 4″ square for my DIY Vintage Book Page Pinwheel.

I then cut into the square on all 4 corners. Be careful not to cut through to the next slit, or your pinwheel won’t work right.

I brought an opposite corner to the center of the square book page piece.  Once 4 of the corners met in the center, I placed a straight pin in the center to hold all the corners together.

For my “stick I used red white and blue pencils.  (I found them at Target, in the dollar section) I like using pencils because I can push the straight pin through the eraser. Thus making the DIY Vintage Book Page Pinwheel actually work.

Once the straight pin is through the eraser, I bend and push it down toward the pencil, so it won’t poke little fingers.

I made at least 10 pinwheels, because I had 10 pencils.  But you could make as many as your heart desires.

I tried making bigger pinwheels, but the pages are too old to stay stiff to hold it’s shape.  The smaller ones looked great and the grandkiddos had fun playing with them.

I gotta tell ya, the adults liked them as much as the kids.  The DIY Vintage Book Page Pinwheels are fun in all colors as well as book pages.

Have fun making them as favors for your July 4th guests.

Thanks for joining me today and make sure to visit the Red, White and Blue Inspiration Blog Tour.

I just love me some red, white and blue, don’t you??

Make it a Red, White and Blue Day!
