It’s time for another Field Trip Friday! I am beyond thrilled to have Jennifer here today. You will love her taste, style, recipes, and overall design. Welcome Jennifer…
Hi everyone! I’m Jennifer at Town and Country Living and I’m so honored that Meegan invited me to take you on her Friday Field Trip! My blog is about living life where the suburbs of Chicago meet the prairie fields of Illinois. My town is the last stop on the commuter train from the city. I truly get the best of both worlds … city living and farm charm!
This is my humble abode … a circa 1875 clapboard farmhouse with a few Victorian embellishments. Our street dead ends into a path that meanders back through the local forest preserve. It’s pretty and idyllic and I feel truly blessed. Wanna come inside?
In my house, there’s not an “official” entry way. You step right inside the living room so I added this desk to create a foyer of sorts. I can plop down the mail and stuff my keys in one of the drawers. I love the big windows in my house that let the sun stream in!
And here’s the rest of my living room. My floors are painted chocolate brown and topped with bamboo script mats, which I absolutely love! They’re kid and pet-friendly, holding up to a lot of wear and tear.
As you can see, I use a lot of white in my home. This allows me to add different color schemes throughout the year. I like a bright and airy home and the color white helps me achieve that look. You can see part of my white ironstone collection in the corner hutch in my dining room. I grab these pieces when I see them for the right price at our local flea market.
I’ve just recently started collecting these vintage stone crocks. I love going to the flea market! It’s one of my favorite things to do with my hubby. We always have a good time.
My favorite room is my kitchen. The built-in hutch provides tons of storage, and I got the free-standing IKEA sideboard from a co-worker. I think it fits perfectly in my farmhouse kitchen even though it’s newer.
Another thing I love is flowers! Whenever I can set a pretty table with flowers … I’m a happy camper.
I love arranging flowers in a variety of containers and styles. When you visit my blog, you’ll see lots of flowers … from fancy roses to fragrant lilacs picked fresh from my yard.
In the summer I’ll stop and cut wildflowers from the roadside. I take a big bucket of water with me and drive until I see something pretty growing alongside the road. I love these casual arrangements.
Another passion of mine is cooking. I love using local produce … especially when they’re veggies from my own garden. I only wish I had more time to spend whipping up yummy recipes in the kitchen, like this Asparagus and Spring Onion Tart.
At the end of a long day, I like to take a relaxing soak right here in my claw foot tub!
I hope you enjoyed your field trip to the outskirts of Chicago! And I hope you’ll stop by my blog for a visit from time to time! Thanks so much, Meegan, for letting me open my heart and home and take your readers on this little outing today!!
I hope all of you have enjoyed Field Trip Friday with Town & Country Living. I KNOW, I did!!
Make it a Field Trip Friday…

How lucky of Jennifer to have such a beautiful historical home. She’s done a stunning job decorating it. I could spend many hours on the front porch and in her kitchen. Thanks so much for sharing Jennifer and her blog with us today Meegan.

That kitchen is so darn cute! And the whole house. It looks like something out of Anne of Green Gables. Such a classic, beautiful look.
