Good Morning! And Happy Monday! I am really excited to write this post about My Road Trip to Caliente. You know how much I love vintage items right? And you know my love for old things with some history, right? Well, I have a little of both for you today. I think you will enjoy it.
You know sometimes when you are at the right place at the right time? Well, that’s what happened to us…
More about that later.
Hubby has been wanting to go on a day trip up through northern Nevada for months. He especially wanted me to see Alamo and Calinete. Hmmm…Have YOU ever driven though Nevada other than Vegas? It’s not much to see. Especially if you like green (like I do). There are lots of rocks, dirt, rocks, piles of rocks, dirt, and more rocks. But, he said I would really like these two towns. AND, we wanted to get out of the city and noise just for a day.
Well, lo and behold, my Hubby knows me VERY well.
We drove right through Alamo. Well, not exactly. We got a speeding ticket. Yeah, I know-LAME! But after that adventure we kept driving right to Caliente. Hubby saw a cafe that he wanted to grab a bite to eat. It was VERY good.
But I kept thinking about the buildings I had seen on our way in town.
I spotted this right away. Hubby was enjoying watching me discover. I LOVE the brick work, and the crazy, tall chimney stack. Oh, and the things I could make with the wood!
Aren’t the pillars gorgeous??
Love love love this view of underneath the front entrance.
As we kept walking south, I spotted this building. And look at the old door! What’s not to love here?
Come to find out that building is a tire repair shop.
Not only that! It is also filled with artifacts, antiques, old window frames, furniture, and posters from the old movie theater in town. Another fun fact about The Spare Tire-It used to be the local saloon back in the day!
Susan owns and runs The Spare Tire in Caliente. She was more than happy to show us her shop, and everything in it. It is also her residence. How cool is that???
Susan has lived in Caliente for 7 years. She is a former L.V. school teacher, and loves her new home of Caliente. She is very knowledgeable of the town history, and has a wonderful personality. We became instant friends! Kindred spirits.
Right behind The Spare Tire is the abandoned Volunteer Fire Station. Oh, the stories this building could tell.
I could not resist getting a picture of Carl’s Burger joint. It’s closed down, but I love the ambiance.
Here is an abandoned barn that I couldn’t resist either. I love the doors, don’t you?
Lastly, during our visit with Susan, she had something I have been looking for. She sent me this and a picture of where it is from:
“Old Shed on Main Street” in Caliente.
The building is probably 100 years old. Don’t know who the original owner was.
The exterior is board and batten. The windows are “pocket” windows; they slid open
inside the walls. The interior was insulated, and the walls were finished with salvaged
brown cardboard!
Can you guess what I bought? I will write about it tomorrow, so come back then to find out. I was happy to own any piece of this shed. (I can give you a small hint-it is not the door.)
Thanks for going on My Road Trip to Caliente with me.
See you tomorrow! Make it a marvelous Monday!

GREAT FUN! I can just imagine your excitement and I’m sure you made Susan’s day. I know you wanted to scoop everything up, buildings included, and take it home with you. You’ll be going back again, and again.
I can just imagine Carl’s Burger jumping and jiving and Guy Fieri pulling up.

The photos you captured while in Caliente are beautiful and very creative.
Thank-you for the honor of placing my shop among your favorite places.
We look forward to seeing you soon, and hopefully often.
