DIY Herb & Pine Cone Filled Fire Starter

November 21, 2013 By Meegan 2 Comments

Happy Thursday!!  The holidays are coming upon us and we better start get ready soon!!  Is it cold where you live?  It is cooler here, but not COLD yet.  I sure miss our wood stove we had in the hills of California.  And, I also wish I had been able to use a DIY Herb and Pine Cone Filled Fire Starter for those cold Winter months.

These are a great Holiday gift and fun for your own home.  Besides that-they are EASY PEASY to make…

DIY Herb & Pine Cone Filled Fire Starter
 My components were:

newspaper

strips of cardboard

sprigs of fresh thyme

pine cones

paper doilies

twine and/or string

small tags (optional)

I “wrapped” the pine cone with cardboard and then tucked in the thyme.  I chose thyme, because the aroma will fill your home with a wonderful fresh, clean scent, that only thyme can give.
Rolling the pine cone in a newspaper tube, I tied each end with twine.

Using a paper doily, my small tag and string, I tied the doily around the tied newspaper and pine cone.
Yep, it IS that easy!!
Won’t your friends and neighbors love this simple and festive gift?  It is a perfect hostess gift for your Holiday and Christmas parties.  You can make your tags personalized for each friend or neighbor, too.

Be sure to pin this so you can use a DIY Herb & Pine Cone Filled Fire Starter for your campfires and fire pits during the Summer months, too.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I love your comments and ideas.

Make it a terrific day.

My friend Leslie has an incredible Hot Red Potato Salad recipe.  When I had the first bite, I knew I was in love!  I know you will be, too.  I also thought you might like it for St Patrick’s Day, Easter or even a Summer Barbecue.

Ingredients:

5 lbs red potatoes, cut into cubes

1/4 c melted butter

1/4 c olive oil

Garlic powder

Season salt

DRESSING:

2 c mayonnaise

4 cloves garlic, pressed

3 T lemon juice

2 T red wine vinegar

1 c fresh grated Parmesan cheese

ADD-INS & TOPPINGS

Chopped green onions

Italian parsley

1 cup sun-dried tomatoes, coarsely chopped

Croutons

Preheat oven to 400*.  Toss cubed potatoes with olive oil and butter.  Sprinkle generously with garlic powder and season salt.  Bake for 45 minutes.  Broil for 5 minutes.  Place potatoes in a large mixing bowl.

In a separate bowl mix mayonnaise, garlic, lemon juice, and red wine vinegar.  Add Parmesan cheese and mix well.  Pour over potatoes and stir.  Add croutons, Italian parsley and green onions.  Serve warm.  Actually it is great cold, too.

It can be served with a roasted turkey, corned beef, hamburgers or as a main dish

Christmas/Winter Sticks

December 19, 2012 By Meegan Leave a Comment

I just love bringing the outdoors in, don’t you??  That is why I love my Christmas/Winter Sticks.  Everyone who enters our home comments on my Christmas Sticks.  These sticks truly make me smile every time I look at them.

I got them last year when the gardener was cutting down a tree right outside our balcony.  I asked him if I could have a few branches.  He looked at me funny, and said, “Well, okay.”  Little did he know what I had envisioned for these bare branches.

Christmas/Winter Sticks

I just love these branches all year long.  They are right next to me while I write my blog posts.
