I don’t know about you, but getting enough sleep OR falling asleep at all can be challenging. Whether I am tired or not. It can b e VERY frustrating. Today I want to share some of my own tried and true Relaxing Tips To Fall Asleep.

*Mind you, I am not an expert, doctor or specialist. Other than life experience has prompted me to write this blog post.
I have always envied those who can just lay their head on a pillow and fall asleep. What! That hasn’t ever happened for me.
I am not trying to sell you oils, facemasks, blankets, mattresses or a spa membership. ALTHOUGH, I know any one of these could work for you at any given time.
Today I would like to suggest simple ideas that MAY help your ability to fall asleep more easily along with your sleep patterns.

My daughter suggested this one to me.
As you are tucked in bed, name five tender mercies that you have experienced on that particular day. As mentioned above it could a simple as an unexpected text from a loved one or being able to get laundry done. It could also be something a lot larger, such as being protected from being in a car accident, finding out great news at a doctor appointment. Whatever YOU see as a tender mercy works.
Just the fact of acknowledging gratitude for tender mercies will help relax your brain to realize the GOOD things in your days.

Of course, you don’t need to follow this pattern of prayer exactly. This is just a suggestion. Being thankful before asking can be seen as humbleness and gratitude.
Not only that, but it helps remind us of what we REALLY have before what we think are our NEEDS. It’s always good for our minds to see a true perspective of our lives. Through faith in God, praying can be this gift to you.

Oh my goodness, breathing correctly is so important. We all know that already, right? We can’t live without breathing-duh!
Relieving stress before falling asleep is vital. Slow down, regulate your breathing and heart rate. This can change your sleeping/rest dramatically. Try the breathing pattern listed above and see how much you slow down and actually relax.
I have heard of other breathing patterns that work, as well. This one seems to be best for me. Like I said, I am NOT a specialist, professional or doctor-just someone who has tried MANY options throughout life.

There is something about having a thought in your mind and it coming through your hands onto paper that changes us both mentally and physically. It can free our minds of stress, worries, struggles or unhealthy desires.
Writing in a journal is probably one of the most suggested healing processes for sleeping better. They are personal, and individual ideas or goals. Have you kept a journal before?

When this was suggested to me, I giggled and thought HOW could THIS REALLY work! Well, I was proven wrong. This has actually become one of my favorites relaxing patterns to use.
Wiggle all of your toes. Slowly. There’s no rush.
So much so-that I find myself wiggling my toes when I feel anxiety coming on, or winding down from the day.

Each one of these Relaxing Tips To Fall Asleep has a time and place for each of us, collectively or individually.
You don’t have to do each one every night. That becomes a task and stress in and of itself. Whichever one fits your need for that day is BEST for YOU. Sometimes it’s just the tender mercies that are needed, praying is a good decompresser, writing can be healing, breathing techniques can help almost anyone and the wiggling of your toes is interesting and relaxing.
We ALL have stressers, troubles, unexpected trials, or physical challenges. At some point in time it will be hard to fall asleep with the weight of any one of these on our minds. It will be interesting to see what YOU try and works BEST for you.
