Easy, Simple Fall Bookcase With a Cottage Feel

October 18, 2012 By Meegan 3 Comments

I am swamped with things to do within the next couple of weeks, as we prepare for our son’s wedding.  BUT, I do want to share with you some of the easy, simple Fall bookcase with a cottage feel I do have around our home.  It was SUPER EASY and fun to get my creative juices going!

I basically used the same foundation as my Summer Shelf, but took away my shells and added new Fall elements.  Easy and effective.

I found the clear pull knobs at HL. I knew I needed them!!  I added Billy Balls to the vintage blue bottle for some Fall color.  I also switched out shells and rocks for pumpkins.

I found the artichokes at PB a few years ago.  They are working well in our home now matter the season.  Love it!!  Both candle sticks were thrift finds.  I painted them to fit our decor.

Here is just another look at all the elements and colors.  Same blue, same style with just a touch of Fall added.  It is so easy to change things up in your home for each season.  I have been doing it for years and I hope you can see how fun it is.  You don’t need a lot to make a difference.

I hope I have inspired you to bring a little bit of Fall to your home with my Easy, Simple Fall Bookcase With a Cottage Feel .  If you have decor already to place around your home, and don’t have a lot of time-just put up a few things.  (I literally still have a full container full.)  You still bring the season into your home without the clutter and taking up too much time.

Enjoy your day and treasure those you love.

Cutting Burlap Without The Mess

September 26, 2012 By Meegan 17 Comments

Fall is in full bloom and that means decorating with burlap. I don’t know about you, but until recently thinking about cutting a piece of burlap has made me cringe.  Just thinking about the mess to clean up and all those little fibers everywhere-ugh! I want to show YOU a trick to Cutting Burlap Without The Mess.

Since I have been preparing for a wedding this coming Friday, I have needed burlap.  While I was purchasing the dreaded burlap, the girl cutting it showed me a tip to solve my burlap misery!!  I thought I should share it with you-a few of my burlap loving friends.

How To Cut Burlap in a Straight Line

It really is as easy as 1,2,3.

The Joel Jones Challenge With Change Leftover!!

September 18, 2012 By Meegan 9 Comments

It has been a while ago, but one of my sponsors-Joel Jones Furniture gave me a “$30 Challenge”.  They gave me $30 with the challenge to see how far I could make the money go.

I found this beauty at the thrift store for $10 bucks!!  Yay!!  Great way to start!!

She is pretty beat up, but all the better to work with.  On the bottom there is a stamp reading “Zenos Tables 1977”.  So this table has been around for 35 years!!  Awesome!  She is spray painted with black high sheen paint, and pretty dirty.  All she needs is some TLC.  No prob-I have that!!

Here she is all primed and ready to paint.  (And, she looks right at home, doesn’t she?)  The primer was $6 dollars.  So that means I have spent $16, so far.

I have some paint waiting to be used on my bedroom wall.  The color is called “Summer Sonnet” by Ace Hardware.  I painted the top of the table with the “Summer Sonnet”.  This is my first coat, still pretty light.  Then I painted the base of the coffee table white-which I already had.  The color is called “Bright White” by Better Homes and Gardens  So zero cost there.  Yay!!!

I used “Summer Sonnet” to outline the detail on the doors as well.  Once I was done painting, I began to sand all around edges and corners.  Not a lot, but enough to make it look a little worn and used.

I bought a stencil at Home Depot for $2.98.  So now I am up to $19.    I used the same white that I painted the rest of the table with for my stencils.  Once I was done stenciling and everything was dry, I sanded over that, too.  By hand, I might add :)

Here she is all finished up.  Doesn’t she look so happy??

A more detailed look of our “New” table.  She is looking pretty happy here!!  Love it!!

One last look at the stenciling and the sanding.  I just love how she turned out.  So for $19 and a little time, we have a “New” coffee table that fits just right in our living room.  What do you think??

I still have $11 left.  What should I do now?  I have a few ideas in mind-I will keep you updated and if you have any suggestions let me know I would love to hear them.

In-between watching grand babies, wedding dinner plans, and life, I will be working on the dresser I found in the dumpster!!  She is already primed and waiting for some TLC, too.

Thanks for stopping by and letting me share my lovely table!!

Make it a great and terrific Thursday!!
