April 11, 2014 By Meegan 7 Comments

Yay!  It’s Field Trip Friday with Christy from Confessions of a Serial Do-It-Yourselfer!  You will enjoy Christy’s style, taste and creativity.  I am honored that Christy is willing to be a part of Field Trip Friday today.

It’s time for this field trip to begin…
Confessions of a Serial Do-it-Yourselfer

Hi everyone, my name is Christy and today I am so excited to welcome you to my blog, Confessions of a Serial Do-it-Yourselfer! As the title suggests, I move from one project to the next to the next. I love to drag home all kinds of treasures from who knows where and give them new life! I love to re-imagine and upcycle just about everything and anything. If I can’t find what I’m looking for, I have no problem building or creating what I need. I also love to share easy-to-follow sewing tutorials.

I started blogging, not only as a way to share my adventures, but also as a means to inspire others to tackle projects they otherwise thought they could never do. Maybe you’ll feel inspired too!

Come along, I’d love to share a few of my favorite projects with you today!

Let’s start with a fun furniture makeover. I found this dining set at a thrift store for $85. Can you see the potential?

Here’s the after…

Here’s a fun upcycle. I found this old headboard at a yard sale for $5 (the crazy thing is they had two and I only took one. So crazy.):

Here’s the after…perfect to hang just inside the door to hang your hat and whatnot!

Headboard upcycled into a charming faux sign for holding hats and coats!

Here’s another simple upcycle. I started with a thrift store frame and some old fencing I found on the side of the road:

…and created something fresh and new, a pretty white-washed tray!

How about a build? I redid my master closet to make it more functional, using every available square inch…without breaking the bank!

Finally, let’s go outside, I have to share one of my all time favorite projects!

See these ugly granite landscaping stones (actually in this photo, they might be about the best thing ha ha):

I used them to create a circular patio… believe it or not, this is the same spot on the side of my house as shown above!

I hope you enjoyed these projects, I’d love for you to drop by my place to see more anytime!

Field Trip Friday with Girl in the Garage

April 4, 2014 By Meegan 2 Comments

Yay!!  It’s Field Trip Friday!  It’s one of my fave days of the week.  Today we have the multi-talented Jen from Girl in the Garage.

Take it away Jen…

Hi everyone, I’m Jen from Girl in the Garage and it’s great to be here as Meegan’s guest today! First I’ll tell you a little about myself.

I’ve been married for almost 8 years and we have two little boys who both have April birthdays- they’ll be 4 and 5 years old this month. They keep me very busy playing Legos, reading books, and making various train track configurations. When they’re sleeping (or whenever I can steal a few minutes away) I work on DIY projects and blog about them.

I love to take old, ugly furniture and make it over into something beautiful and cherished. I also make unique home decor and personal accessories. I’d like to share a few of my favorite projects with you today.

DIY T-Shirt into Infinity Scarf: I love this recent scarf I made from an old shirt, and I plan to make more. It was so easy!

Midcentury Makeover with a Surprise: This piece turned out so cool – way better than it was when I got it!

Easter Egg Garland: I made this festive garland for the Easter Showcase that’s been going on all week. It looks so sweet on my hutch that I refurbished a couple years ago.

Organizer Makeover: I took a dirty organizer meant for the garage and turned into a beautiful French-y storage piece. This has been one of my most popular projects!

You can see these and more of my projects HERE.

Thanks again to Meegan for having me today!

Field Trip Friday in Oregon

March 21, 2014 By Meegan 3 Comments

I love a great field trip, don’t you?  Today I am happy to share just a small portion of my field trip Friday in Oregon.

I literally took hundreds of pictures while I was there this past week.  Visiting our daughter and her family is always a treat.  I love the crisp, clear air and of course, all the sights.  Today I am going to share just a small fraction of my fave pictures.

This lovely picture was taken on a walk just down the street from our daughter’s home.  Yes, I am a little jealous.

This is by far one of my fave house crushes in her town.  I like the stairs, chairs and door all matching.  What a great idea!

The entry to the neighbor’s yard is so inviting.

I honestly couldn’t get enough pictures of  this tree.  It’s like out of the “Secret Garden”.  The neighbor told us the planks were nailed in when she was a kid about 20 years ago.  How fun is that?  It looks magical to me.

Just down the road is a home with this lovely backyard.  Another area that I took lots and lots of pictures.  See the vintage red wagon in the background?  Love it!

I was enamored with this white barn.  The patina of the wood and paint melt me.  And look at that gorgeous sky.

Here is another house crush.  Pink and white for a house.  What do you think?

It was a treat to have Spring popping up every where I walked.

A cute flower cart was on a street corner in downtown Portland.  I think I want one, too.  (Well, in my dreams, anyway)

Like I mentioned earlier, this is just a small fraction of all the pictures I took while I was visiting in Oregon.  I have hundreds more fro my trip across the U.S.  I can hardly wait to share more with you over the next week.  It really was the trip of a lifetime.  To see more of my photos follow me on Instagram by using the hashtag #travelingwithmeegan

Thanks for joining me for Field Trip Friday in Oregon.

Field Trip Friday with Vanessa

February 28, 2014 By Meegan 2 Comments

Happy Friday and welcome to Field Trip Friday with my sweet blogging friend Vanessa!!
She is kind enough to share her talents with you today while I am out of town.  I know you will enjoy her blog and all of her talent today!
I hope you will visit her blog and give her some love from me.  Thanks EVERYONE!
Have a Field Trip Friday!!
I gave new life to these boring brown night stands.

I don’t have a fancy machine to cut vinyl decals so I created my own. How to create your own vinyl decals and etch glassware.

I turned this vintage picture frame into a message board.

Another favorite is this shabby chic maple dresser. I added some glass knobs and this pieces turned out beautiful.

I have shown you some of my favorite diy projects, but another passion of mine is cooking savory meals for my family and friends.

These Spanish empanada are easy and delicious and my family loves them.

Meegan thank you for having me today and wishing you all a great weekend!

Vanessa
