Easy, Simple Fall Bookcase With a Cottage Feel

October 18, 2012 By Meegan 3 Comments

I am swamped with things to do within the next couple of weeks, as we prepare for our son’s wedding.  BUT, I do want to share with you some of the easy, simple Fall bookcase with a cottage feel I do have around our home.  It was SUPER EASY and fun to get my creative juices going!

I basically used the same foundation as my Summer Shelf, but took away my shells and added new Fall elements.  Easy and effective.

I found the clear pull knobs at HL. I knew I needed them!!  I added Billy Balls to the vintage blue bottle for some Fall color.  I also switched out shells and rocks for pumpkins.

I found the artichokes at PB a few years ago.  They are working well in our home now matter the season.  Love it!!  Both candle sticks were thrift finds.  I painted them to fit our decor.

Here is just another look at all the elements and colors.  Same blue, same style with just a touch of Fall added.  It is so easy to change things up in your home for each season.  I have been doing it for years and I hope you can see how fun it is.  You don’t need a lot to make a difference.

I hope I have inspired you to bring a little bit of Fall to your home with my Easy, Simple Fall Bookcase With a Cottage Feel .  If you have decor already to place around your home, and don’t have a lot of time-just put up a few things.  (I literally still have a full container full.)  You still bring the season into your home without the clutter and taking up too much time.

Enjoy your day and treasure those you love.

I “Fell into Fall” Mantel

October 11, 2012 By Meegan 10 Comments

[slideshow_deploy id=’4254′]

We don’t have many little kiddos nearby who come over, so I wasn’t sure if I was even going to do any decorating for Halloween. With seeing all the cute and fun ideas around, I hopped on the bandwagon.   After gathering my Fall accessories I put together my: I “Fell into Fall” Mantel

Some of the items have sentimental value.  The “Happy Halloween” can was made our youngest son when he was in Cub Scouts.  Now he will be married in just a few weeks.

Isn’t the pumpkin so awesome????  I made it last year after a visit to Pottery Barn.  I KNEW I needed one!  I found a fake pumpkin (of course).  Painted it white.  Let that dry, then mod podged old book pages to it.  After 3 coats of mod podge, I let her dry for a few days.  I then sprayed silver glitter all over for a more expensive, stylish look.  The “trunk” is just stick I found outside.  I added a little green moss around the top, for a finished look.

Here is a closer look of this beauty!!

I also made the BOO sign last year.  I copied it, cut it out, then glued it onto black ribbon.  With glitter puffy paints, I outlined the letters.  So fun!!  The owl is from Target in the dollar section-score!

My hubby bought me the candy corn wreath, because I LOVE candy corn SO much!  I think the bat is cute, too.  The bear was a gift from a friend.  Don’t you just think she looks cute with her witch hat and collar??

This is a view along with my Fall Paper Decor.  Yep, I finally decorated my “Fell into Fall” Mantel.

Make it a wonderful Thursday!!

TV Room Reveal

September 19, 2012 By Meegan 19 Comments

So good to be with you today! I feel like I am finally home. And ready to share my TV Room Reveal. I have been busy with traveling, and wedding flowers, not to mention having my husband home for a few days, AND our 35th Wedding Anniversary!

Anyway, in-between time I have been slowly working on our TV Room.  It is really a bedroom, but is more functional for us as a TV Room, and perfect for when company comes for a visit.

Jen’s Refreshed Kitchen

September 18, 2012 By Meegan 13 Comments

First of all let me say again, how excited I am to be here!!  I am grateful to have had one of my sponsors Joel Jones Furniture help to have a WordPress.com

They saw I was having problems over at blogger and came to the rescue!!  Thanks Joel Jones Furniture!!

I will be adjusting and moving things around here for the next week or so-PLEASE be patient with me :)

Okay, so here we go…My friend Jen and her family which includes her hubby and 4 sons moved into a ‘new’ home a few years ago.  It has been fun for her to see what she likes and pull it all together.  She contacted me and asked if I would help-this meant spending time with a good friend, shopping and lunch!!  Of course I would go!!

Jen sent me various pictures and ideas she liked, and we went from there.  Jen definitely likes vessels.  Vessels of any kind-bowls, vases, urns, lanterns, etc..

We shopped for a full day.  We went to Home Goods,  & Ross.  Cafe Rio was for dinner-I mean really-who could resist that!!  Then while away on a trip Jen found more goodies at Ikea.  Score!!

This is our pallet above the stove.  Jen had just recently painted her cabinets white after being a red oak stain.   And with the neutral walls we could bring in the colors and accessories she liked most.
This is her other pallet above the refrigerator.    Beautiful home.  Now just to add a few things we purchased and some things Jen already owns.  We basically said we were playing because it was so fun!
Theses are a few of the various items Jen had and/or purchased.  LOVE!!
More fun things to “play” with.  The 2 milk bottle and basket were a great find at Home Goods for $7 for all three together!!  How awesome!!
And, a few more… LOVE the coral jug from Ikea!
Here we go…  We worked around with colors, textures, size and height.  The cabinets are recessed, so we added books for better height and visibility.  Jen fell in love with the coral canister from Ikea.  They came in a set of 2 for $12-not too shabby!!
Most everything else in this picture, she already had around her home.  She gave me free reign to use anything I thought would work.
She had the old trunk which worked perfectly, because everything was either round or some type of vessel.  This trunk added variety to the eye.  Don’t you just love the “bowl”.  It was a Home Goods Find.  It was my fave because it had most every color Jen was hoping to incorporate in her kitchen.  The aqua vessel was a Ross find.  Gotta love Ross.
This is a good look at what we ended up with above and around the stove.  As you can see there is an iron scroll above the stove that Jen’s hubby hung after I left.  (You can tell we are ready for him because of the tool box on the stove.)

And here are the cabinets above the refrigerator.  Don’t you just love all the textures and shapes?  The plate was purchased at Pier 1 a few yrs ago.  I really like the sphere on the left.

Jen purchased these jars before she contacted me and was going a different route and look with her kitchen.  Once above the cabinets were set we wondered what we could do with the large jars-we talked about filling them with chess pieces because her hubby loves chess, we also talked about filling them with spools of and different types of string.  But, then DUH!!  We thought to bring a warm home feeling, Jen would fill them with flour, sugar and brown sugar.  Perfect for this tiny window space and what Jen was hoping for.

Okay, I have to say when Jen and I both saw this, we almost ran to it.  It called our names!  Really, it did!  Jen wanted something a little crazy, and a great pop of aqua.  This was it.  We placed her on an easel and she was now home!!  Great idea for the other tiny kitchen window!!

Once all was said and done-it looked great and really felt like a different kitchen and a nice place for Jen to enjoy making meals for her family.

Her real inspiration were the Ikea coral jugs.  Jen went out that day and purchased paint in that exact color to paint her pantry door!!  How fun is that??

I will back over at Jen’s in a few weeks.  Once we started looking around, we realized we could also switch her living room and family room furniture around!!  I can’t wait to share the transformation with you!

Thanks Jen for letting me “play”.  It was great fun with a great friend!!

I hope you all will be inspired by today’s post.  It is easy to make changes without spending a lot of money.
