White and Natural Christmas Shelves

December 16, 2013 By Meegan 2 Comments

If you have been browsing through blogs over the past month, you have seen several home tours.  Isn’t it SO fun to see how others decorate for Christmas??? It is for me, too!

Today, I wanted to share MORE inspiration with my White and Natural Christmas Shelves.

#whatmeeganmakes

We don’t have a mantel, so I like to use the shelves as my “mantel” for our home.

This is a view from the living room.  I really like how the white and natural Christmas shelves are a focal point.

White and Natural Christmas Shelves

The crystal wreath was actually won at a high school choir raffle by my sister-in-law.

Using word ornaments of the Christmas season, I hung them on the wreath, as well.

The bottom shelf is filled with tree stump candle holders (made by my mom’s husband) and tiny “ice crystals”.

Don’t you love the “veins” in the wood???  So natural and artistic.

I like the look of string tied candles.  To me, it makes it look like I thought about them, before placing them in their home.

Loving these crystals as well.

White and Natural Christmas Shelves

The top shelf holds a very special Nativity.  It was the first one I ever bought for our family.

I set it out every year as a true reminder of Christmas.

The icicles add the finished touch, don’t you think???

So, even though I don’t have a mantel, I am able to decorate my White and Natural Christmas Shelves.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Christmas will be here before you know it.  Do you have any special ways you decorate for Christmas??  I would love to here about them!!

Thanks for stopping by on a busy Monday!!

Make it a great day!

DIY Pine Cone and Feather Banner

September 18, 2013 By Meegan 23 Comments

Happy Wednesday, my friends!!  Has the Fall weather started creeping in your area?  It is turning Fall here slowly, but surely.  The temperature is still in the 90’s during the day, but the evenings are cooling off enough to open the windows. It is cool enough that I decided to add a few Fall decorations around our home.  One of them is a DIY Pine Cone and Feather Banner.

I had so much fun shopping for feathers to add to my banner.  There are so many varieties and colors.  I was looking for more of a natural feather rather than a Fall color like bright orange or red.

The components I needed for my DIY Pine Cone and Feather Banner were:

Jute

Feathers

Pine Cones

Feathers

Hot Glue

Scrapbook Paper

Stencils

Brown Sharpie Marker

There are a lot of pine trees around our complex, so the pine cones were easy to find.  Using hot glue I was able to add each component to make my DIY Pine Cone and Feather Banner.

Using scrapbook paper, stencils and a brown sharpie I made my banner.  I like the word “gather” for this time of year.  Because as a family, we gather together often for Sunday dinners, Saturday soccer games, and we gather food to eat together.

I wish I knew what this little spiky balls are.  I found them under a tree at church one day, scooped them up and knew they would be perfect for my Fall Decorating.  Do you know what they are???

I love this scrapbook paper.  It looks aged and worn with a little blue and green for variety.  I was inspired by the Monday Blues to add blues and greens.  It’s a look I like so much.  Each separate piece adds to the look and feel of the banner.

I am really pleased with my DIY Pine Cone and Feather Banner.  I love the natural elements for Fall.

So, what do you think?  Are you going to make a banner of your own??  What would yours say?

Thanks for stopping by today.  I am happy to have you here everyday.  I love reading your comments and try to respond to everyone.

Make it a wonderful Wednesday!

Summer Beach Cottage Shelf

May 7, 2013 By Meegan 13 Comments

This is a post from last Fall, but I think it applies to now just as well, since Spring and Summer are upon us.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did pulling it together.

I know for some of you Summer is almost over.  But, I don’t want it to end.  I love the sun, the water, the warmth, the sound of people enjoying the outdoors, etc…  I like to pretend we live in a beach cottage.  I know I am old, I shouldn’t be pretending like that.  But it is my dream-and we live in the desert so this is my only way to get that Summer beach cottage feeling.

In an effort to avoid getting my Fall Decor out, I rearranged my shells, and my candles on the top shelf of our bookcase.  I looked around my home to see what I could come up with.  It took me about 15 minutes to finish.  I have shared this part of our living room with you before.

Before:

It is nice.  But I still needed the frame for the book page wreath, and the shelves are way too crowded.

After:  I looked in our bathrooms,  and in the kitchen, then found just what I had in mind.  Much Better!

A close up of my goodies.  Yes, those are dried artichokes in the vase.  Thanks PB!  The candlesticks were all thrifted and placed in various areas of our home.  I like them together now.  I tied string around each candle for a more beachy feel.

The rocks and shells each represent a vacation or a beach trip.  The books are some of our favorites that we have taken to the beach or pool with us to relax and read as we soak up the sun.

Another look.  I found the sticks from a stick tree I added to our living room.  I just love sticks, don’t you???  I LOVE how everything looks so good with the frame and wreath, too.

The coral is from Maui and the smaller shells are from Tahiti.  The candlestick is a thrift find.  Everything looks better tied with twine or string, doesn’t it?

You will recognize this stand when I made a $3 cloche.  The cloche is just under this shelf with dried hydrangeas in it now.  LOVE!!
Yep, I am not ready for Summer to end!!  So I will leave my Summer beach cottage shelves up for awhile.  Until I absolutely need to change them.  But, for now it is still summer, right?  Come on-tell me “Right”.

My Spring Shelves

March 5, 2013 By Meegan 16 Comments

I love the warm weather with a hint of Spring.  To help me even feel more like Spring is on it’s way, I decided to decorate my Spring Shelves.  Seriously, as I am writing this I hear the sweetest birds singing outside.  So cute…

Anyway…Let’s get this show on the road!!My Spring Shelves

With our windows wide open, the smell of warm, fresh air inspired me to bring out my Spring ideas.

My Spring shelves

Don’t you just love the look of a nest with speckled eggs??  An awesome find at 99centOnly.  The vintage books are a perfect way to add height.

My Spring Shelves

The wreath is usually found on our front door, but she looks happy here with a bird’s nest and the other Spring elements, don’t you think??

My Spring Shelves

Just a closer view of everything.   The branch on the left with the humming bird nest is from my mother-in-law.  She loved hummingbirds.  Another sign that Spring is on it’s way.

My Spring Shelves

The two african violet pots were purchased at Tai PanTrading.  The moss on each pot reminds me of Spring, and new life.

The tulip pot was a dollar at Gardner Village, when I was there a few years ago.  You can’t beat a dollar for tulips, can you??

My Spring Shelves

Do you recognize the grapevine ball??  I found her at the thrift store.  She is just the right texture to finish off my top shelf.

My Spring Shelves

Can you tell I am so happy with my Spring Shelves??

What is inspiring you for Spring??  What is your favorite part about Spring??

My Spring favorites are: bloosoms on trees, green leaves, fresh flowers blooming everywhere, the birds chirping, green grass, and the warm sun telling me Summer is on it’s way.

Thanks for letting me share my Spring Shelves with you today!!
