DIY Pine Cone and Feather Banner

September 18, 2013 By Meegan 23 Comments

Happy Wednesday, my friends!!  Has the Fall weather started creeping in your area?  It is turning Fall here slowly, but surely.  The temperature is still in the 90’s during the day, but the evenings are cooling off enough to open the windows. It is cool enough that I decided to add a few Fall decorations around our home.  One of them is a DIY Pine Cone and Feather Banner.

I had so much fun shopping for feathers to add to my banner.  There are so many varieties and colors.  I was looking for more of a natural feather rather than a Fall color like bright orange or red.

The components I needed for my DIY Pine Cone and Feather Banner were:

Jute

Feathers

Pine Cones

Feathers

Hot Glue

Scrapbook Paper

Stencils

Brown Sharpie Marker

There are a lot of pine trees around our complex, so the pine cones were easy to find.  Using hot glue I was able to add each component to make my DIY Pine Cone and Feather Banner.

Using scrapbook paper, stencils and a brown sharpie I made my banner.  I like the word “gather” for this time of year.  Because as a family, we gather together often for Sunday dinners, Saturday soccer games, and we gather food to eat together.

I wish I knew what this little spiky balls are.  I found them under a tree at church one day, scooped them up and knew they would be perfect for my Fall Decorating.  Do you know what they are???

I love this scrapbook paper.  It looks aged and worn with a little blue and green for variety.  I was inspired by the Monday Blues to add blues and greens.  It’s a look I like so much.  Each separate piece adds to the look and feel of the banner.

I am really pleased with my DIY Pine Cone and Feather Banner.  I love the natural elements for Fall.

So, what do you think?  Are you going to make a banner of your own??  What would yours say?

Thanks for stopping by today.  I am happy to have you here everyday.  I love reading your comments and try to respond to everyone.

Make it a wonderful Wednesday!

Aren’t those things called sugar plums? Or sugar bombs? Something like that.

My banner would say: “Go Muleicorns!” (That’s the name of the soccer team I coach. Honestly).

We called them gumballs, they come from some kind of gum tree. We used to have gumball wars when we were kids. Great for ammo but dang! they hurt when you step on them!! :-)

i am in love with your gather banner! adding the feathers was a perfect touch for fall in those colors. ya know, i have those spiky balls all over our sidewalk. They fall from my neighbors tree but i don’t know what they are or what the tree is called. they do make it hard to roller skate for my littlest little-but they are cool looking and great to use for fall decor!
i’m so happy to have found your blog through g+ plus today- i am following through bloglovin as well.
hope you can come by and say hi sometime! have a great wednesday.

Meegan, the spiky fruit are from the American Sweetgum tree. One Christmas, my mom strung them together into little wreath ornaments. I’ve seen door wreathes and “kissing balls” made with them as well.

I really like the garland. We have pine cones available. I will try to find some feathers. Thanks for sharing.
