Field Trip Friday with Julie from Lilacs & Longhorns

It’s time for Field Trip Friday with Julie from Lilacs & Longhorns.  You will love her taste, style and her blog!  Not to mention she is one of the nicest people I know.   Take it away Julie!

Hi, I’m Julie from the blog, Lilacs & Longhorns.

I’m so happy to be here at Meegan’s sharing my home tour today!

When Meegan asked me to take you on a tour of my home it was a no-brainer. Meegan is so sweet and creative and I love her blog!

I’m thrilled to invite you in — welcome to my home!

You’ll find that our house is a mix of styles.

I like traditional and cottage/farmhouse with a little bit of French country thrown in. My husband is Texan all the way. He loves leather, cowhide and stained wood.

We have lived here for 12 years and I think it has taken me just as long to figure out how to blend our tastes and come up with “our” style but I think I have finally figured it out!

Adding elements that appeal to both of us is not always easy but I find that when I consider both of our tastes I like the results even better than if I only considered my own.

Besides blending styles, I had to find a way to incorporate family pieces in to our home.

Many of our antiques came from my husband’s grandmother. I have integrated them in with the pieces we have purchased on our own and things I have collected from yard sales and Craig’s list. I have painted some and left others alone.

Our home is a blend of leather and stained woods (his favorites) as well as fabrics and finishes I love.

I recently finished re-doing our formal dining room and I absolutely adore how it turned out.
It’s my favorite room in the house.
It is casual and comfortable and it seats a crowd.
We almost always host Thanksgiving and as well as a lot of family get-togethers so this space is well-used.
That said, our living room is the main hub of activity around here.
We do not have a formal living area, so this one serves as both a formal and casual space.
As you can tell, our home is very open and full of light.
It is what drew us to this house when we bought it.

living room_2

The living room and kitchen are open to one another. I absolutely love this when we are entertaining family and friends.

When I’m working in the kitchen I am never all by myself.

It was also really nice when the kids were little and were playing in the living room. I could keep my eye on everything even when doing dishes.

You’ll notice my cabinets are stained and not painted — which seems to be the trend these days. And, truthfully, I am dying to paint them! I think it would brighten up the whole room and it would just make me feel happy to be in a lighter space.
Again, hubby thinks it would be a shame to paint over stained wood, so we sit at an impasse!
But, trust me, I am quietly coming up with ideas to blend our two opinions to hopefully create something fabulous!
Heading across the house on the main floor is our master bedroom.
As with all the rooms in our home, it is good-size.
It comes in handy because I have done many sewing projects in this room since I’m lacking a designated crafting/sewing space.
When I’m in project mode I set up a table and my sewing machine and do everything in here.
This is another room I have been slowly updating.
It’s not completely finished but I’m happy with it for now.
At some point, I’ll pick up a paint brush and paint a piece or two in here.
You’ll notice my house is a work in progress. Truthfully, I think it always will be!
I just can’t seem to let well enough alone!
Another room I recently finished is my tween daughter’s room.
This is what it looked like until just recently. Yes, I updated the update! (See what I mean?)
The bed in the picture was my husband’s from his bachelor days and I really wanted something “girlier” for her.
I finally found an iron bed on Craig’s List but haven’t photographed her room with it yet. Be sure to stop by my blog because I will be posting about it very soon!

Here’s a very small peek at my son’s room.

It’s undergoing a very slow makeover as well! (You might say I have “decorating ADD”! )

When we got my daughter’s new bed we moved the queen in to my son’s room. I’m planning to paint and do some other DIY’s to bring his room together. I’m so anxious to make his room in to something special!

Thank you so much for touring my home today! And, thank you Meegan, for inviting me to join you at your beautiful blog. It’s been so much fun making myself at home here today!

Please stop by my blog and leave me a comment if you get a chance. I would love to hear from you!

Thanks SO MUCH, for joining us for Field Trip Friday, Julie!!

It’s Friday!!  You you what that means??  It’s Field Trip Friday With Anne From White Lace Cottage!!  I am so happy and honored to have Anne here today.  Anne is one of my favorite bloggers with impeccable taste.  She has a beautiful Field Trip Friday Home Tour for you today.  Welcome Anne…

Hello I am Anne from White Lace Cottage

First I wanted to thank Meegan for inviting me to take you along today on a field trip.

Let me first tell you a little about myself.I have been blogging for almost two years.

I started blogging because I love to decorate and I wanted to share how I decorated my home on a budget.

MEnew1

I am a stay at home Mom to my thirteen year old daughter,I have been blessed to be able to do this.

Now that she is older I have had more time to be creative.

I have been married to my wonderful husband for 24 years.

And we have a sweet cat named Tabitha.

Fall tour2

Fall Home Tour

It’s funny when I first started my blog my home looked nothing like it does now.

My home was not a true reflection of myself.

farmhousekitchen3

My kitchen has changed allot!

Painting my kitchen cabinets was the best decision ever!

They have held up well and make my kitchen nice and bright even in the cold winter months.

Before Photos Of My Kitchen

fallkitchen1

One of my favorite things to collect is white ironstone.

I love my open cabinets, it now gives me more room to display my growing collection.

fallkitchen7

My kitchen was not the only room changed when I started my blog.

I transformed our whole house!

familyroomfall

I painted all of my walls with a creamy white color.

This allows me to add any color to the mix, which is fun to do since I love to change!

crystalchandy1

I am very thrifty shopping mostly at thrift shops, garage sales and antique malls.

wheatdoor1

Old doors and architectural pieces are a favorite of mine.

And I adore chippy patina and usually will not pass up a piece that will work in my home.

fallcloche2

fallfamilyroom11

As I said I change things often in my and keep things fresh.

Honestly from one week to the next things change around here.

diningroomfall2

Decorating is a creative outlet for me.

My First Dining Room Transformation

driedflowersfall2

My living room has had the most dramatic changes.

Living room revisited

I had a 1990’s tapestry sofa that had to go. But I was on a budget an easy solution was a slip cover.

French-basket

And yes paint can do wonders!
Painting a room is a cheap way to redo a room.

And by the way I don’t use expensive paint. Just Glidden America’s finest.

It’s the cheapest paint you can buy but this light color covered my darker walls with one coat. And touches up great!

falllivingroom1

I find lots of furniture while out thrift shopping.Sometimes it just needs a coat of paint.

Like this French chair it was found at a thrift shop for 4.99.

I just painted it with Annie Sloan chalk paint.

livingroom

It looks like leather but it is vinyl.

A vintage metal dormer gives this room a little farmhouse charm too.

Ah yes and ladders, I love finding these and using them around my home.I have several including the one in my kitchen.

French-basket

And every home needs a little sparkle.

I am very patient and wait for chandeliers to go on sale.

And sometimes I even get lucky at thrift shops.

Welcome to Field Trip Friday with Redhead Can Decorate!

I can hardly wait for you to read this post from one of my all-time favorite bloggers.  Julie is talented, creative, and her blog is filled to the brim with personality and spunk-just like Julie!!  So, with out any further adieu…Here is Julie…

I’m Julie, the redhead from redheadcandecorate.com.

RedheadCanDecorateButton1

I blog about how my husband and I “DIY” decorate our home & cook for our family.

We live in Michigan and we have 2 girls and a new kitty.

I love my family! no name

This photo was taken at Niagara Falls. We are both originally from NY.

Ever been?

Speaking of which…

Who doesn’t love a good field trip?

Remember the days when your class would all hop on the yellow bus for a day at the zoo, or aquarium?

That was the best.

Now a days I mostly just get to chaperone the field trips, until now :)

I am so excited to have you all over.

Come on in Meegan, I will show you around.

Maybe some of your followers can try one of our ideas.

Here’s our most recent project:

Winter Beach Lodge Living Room

Winter Beach Lodge Makeover

My husband, Richard, and I, transformed our dark living room by selling our sectional on Craig’s List, updating the furniture, painting, and adding some inexpensive custom trim to the walls to open the space.

I also integrated several DIY decorating ideas into the space such as:

Thrift Store Lamp Makeover

&

Illuminated Photo Door

We also used a dead elm stump from our yard to make an end table.

This was really easy, and almost free.

Just had to buy a can of polyurethane.

Here’s a couple more makeovers we’ve completed through out our home.

Saving $ and creating a comfortable, updated look is always the focus.

Is it time for a nappy yet?

Oh wait, I want to make sure I share this easy pie crust for apple pie season.

You actually make this crust in the pie plate and there is no rolling. It turns out perfect every time.

I use it with my Dutch Apple Pie.

Easy 10 minute pie crust.

I hope you enjoyed the tour.

I post every Friday, so I hope you will visit then too.

I’m on Facebook a lot, so that’s a great way to follow too.
