Living Room Update, Thrifting and Deals

September 17, 2013 By Meegan 14 Comments

Hello Hello!  Have you been as busy as I have been?  I can only imagine that you have.  I am now I am happy to share a living room update, thrifting, and deals.

I have been to just about every thrift store around looking for a new coffee table.  Ours is just a little too large for our space.  One day I dropped Hubby off at work, saw a Garage Sale sign, and I pulled right in.  Looky what I found!!

Living Room Update, Thrifting and Deals

Yep, I found a new coffee table for $15.  He had it marked for $20 but I got it for $15-SCORE!  Still wondering if I should paint her. What do you think?

Living Room Update, Thrifting and Deals

After visiting and looking through several thrift stores the same day, I found this beauty for $3:

It’s a true vintage mirror.  It was leaning up against the shelves, on the floor.  Just waiting for me to pick her up.  I saw the shape and the price and I KNEW I needed her.

I know I shared my living room update a few weeks ago.  I mentioned then that I was looking for a new rug.

I shopped and shopped for a new rug.  While I looked and browsed I found these candlesticks:

Don’t you love the color blue and the mercury glass together?  SO pretty and again, calling my name to buy them…

Can you see why I NEEDED them??  Look at that price!!  Target was good to me that day.

While still rug shopping, I bought 3 rugs.  Tried them all out, and nothing seemed to work until I found this lovely…

Again, at Target.  Doesn’t the rug look great with my $15 coffee table?  Love it!!

With the coffee table and new candlesticks, this place is looking great!

Doesn’t she look lovely with the bookshelves???

Here’s the difference:

Yep, I would say I made a great choice.  It is light, with a bold print, and just the right colors to add in our living room.

I would say my living room update, thrifting and deals were a great success, wouldn’t you???

What good deals have you found recently?  What have you been looking for for awhile to change up your home?  For me it was a rug.  I am so happy to have finally found one just right for us.

Thank you for stopping by my blog today.  I am blessed to have you here.

Make it a terrific Tuesday!

Field Trip Friday-My “New” Living Room Tour

September 6, 2013 By Meegan 12 Comments

It’s Field Trip Friday!!  I am excited to show you my “New” living room.  No, we haven’t moved out of our place, but we HAVE moved furniture around to give us a whole new look and feel.

I can hardly wait to start the tour!

My "New" Living Room Tour

My living room used to look like this as of  last Friday:

My "New" Living Room Tour

I posted My Living Room Makeover last year around this time.  It looks nice, right?  It’s open and feels like a home.  I was really happy with the feel I was creating.  And, I still am working on the look and feel I want to create.

But, after thinking, pondering, and finally having in my head what I REALLY wanted, this is what I did.

My "New" Living Room Tour

Now as you walk in the door, this is what you will see.  Wow!  It’s SO open now!  You can feel how much room we made by moving the sofa at an angle.  I like the look of the grandfather clock behind the sofa.  It is like layering your clothes.  You can layer furniture as well.  And then with my grandpa’s wooden chest flanked to the left of the sofa, it is warm and inviting.

My "New" Living Room Tour

I love this vignette with my Fleur Box,my painted lamp, a vase filled with various blue marbles, and of course my blue insulators.

My "New" Living Room Tour

As you look further to the left you can get a better idea of how the WHOLE room looks, now.  I love that you can see the shutter next to the Grandfather clock.  They pair well together, don’t they?  It’s really hard to see my curtains, but they are sheets from good ol’ Walmart.  Yep, I clipped them onto a curtain rod and now they are perfect for this room.

My "New" Living Room Tour

I REALLY like the chair in this corner.  The framed girl portrait is a print.  It is one of our family favorites.  We often try to guess what she is thinking.  Is she waiting for someone, has she just said good-bye to her love, is she sad, how old is she?  It’s kind of a fun little game we all like to play.

Doesn’t the chair look happy with the lamp behind her.  If you look in the first picture, you will notice that I have painted my lamp stand Antique Gray from Ace hardware.  Yes, I also made the lampshade flowers to add some softness to the room.

My "New" Living Room Tour

I made the pillow before I even started blogging, but you can find the instructions here.  A more full look at the bookshelves.  If you notice, in the first picture all of the books have a dark cover.  I turned ALL of the books around so that only the pages show, rather than the bound side.  It creates a softer look for the whole area, don’t you think?  Then I didn’t have to recover the books, either.  Saved me a lot of time.  Also framing the book page wreath makes it an art piece, rather than a seasonal piece.

My "New" Living Room Tour

And this is what it looks like as you walk in as you look to your far right.  I love the feel and look of this room now.  I seriously walk into this room and smile every time I see it.  I love all of the layers.  NOW, it feels like Meegan is at home.

Now I am just looking for a new rug.  I have been for months.  I might just need to make my own shower curtain rug, so I get what I really like and want.

I hope you have enjoyed my Field Trip Friday “new” living room tour.  It is really fun for me to share it with you!

Bring Spring & Summer In with Thrifted & Antique Finds

May 14, 2013 By Meegan 1 Comment

Good Morning!  Today I am going to share a few of my antiques and thrift finds.

Bring Spring & Summer In with Thrifted & Antique Finds

I love glass.  I love blue glass.  I love antiques.  I love to go antiquing.  I love thrifting.  I love what I find when I go thrifting.  Hence I love sharing with you some of my antique finds and thrifting gems.  Some of these are gifts and others I bought my self.

Here are just a few of my antiques and thrifted items that I have put together in our living room recently.   The colors say “Spring is here and Summer is coming soon…”

Bring Spring & Summer In with Thrifted & Antique FindsRight off the bat I have black and white family pictures.  They really are all our family.  I didn’t purchase these.  The frosted blue insulator is one of my favorite antique finds.  I love the waves in the glass.

Bring Spring & Summer In with Thrifted & Antique FindsAll of these pieces were found at our local thrift store.  Yep, even the blue Mason jar was found there for a buck!!  Yes!!  The 2 vases are from my friend Barbara. I found the candle stand when it was a yucky, dirty brown-of course, I painted it shades of blue.

Bring Spring & Summer In with Thrifted & Antique FindsWhile I was taking pictures for this post, a package came from my daughter.  Guess what was in it??   Two more insulators!!  One almost clear, and the other a deep turquoise.  My kids know me well.  They were both found at an antique mall near my daughter’s home.

Bring Spring & Summer In with Thrifted & Antique FindsOn my bookshelf, I placed my galvanized watering can.  Hubby bought it for me years ago while antiquing in California.  The watering can blends well with the black and white pictures, don’t you think?

Bring Spring & Summer In with Thrifted & Antique FindsThe galvanized pot with the blue ribbon is what I used for Easter.  The blue bottle is from another antiquing trip in Morro Bay, CA.

The small urn was not found thrifting or antiquing, but at Big Lots for $2.  I brought it home, painted it white, and filled it with green moss.  (Can you tell I like paint?)

Bring Spring & Summer In with Thrifted & Antique FindsI really like all of these elements placed together.

Bring Spring & Summer In with Thrifted & Antique FindsThe tray was a thrift find for $1, as was the turquoise vase.  The other 2 vases were also from Barbara.

Bring Spring & Summer In with Thrifted & Antique Finds The marbles and sea glass were purchased at Target on sale.  Lucky me!  Using different levels and vessels I can bring Spring and Summer into our home with very little cost or effort.

Those are just a few of my antiques and thrift finds.  I am still working on a thrifted dining table and chairs that I will share very soon.  I can’t wait till you see it!

Until then..
