The Best of What Meegan Makes-2012

December 26, 2012 By Meegan 6 Comments

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!!  Ours was full of family, friends, and food!!  I am now excited to share “The Best of What Meegan Makes-2012”!!

The Best of What Meegan Makes 2012

Vintage Cupboard Makeover:

I have showed you my antique cupboard before:

I LOVE this cupboard.  As a brief history, I received her from a friend who was going to take her to the dump!

I made her over a few months back.  She was working really well in this room, until I painted the room “Hint of Olive”.  Then the blue was clashing-REALLY bad!!

So I got to work again.  This time I painted the core of the cupboard antique white.  And the silver drawers and cupboard doors with “Hint of Olive” by Ace Hardware.  Oh wow!!  SO MUCH BETTER!!!

I sanded her up a little and stenciled a few designs on her for some pizazz!!

It is interesting working with such an old piece of furniture.  You never how the surface will turn out while sanding it.  That is apparent in this picture.  I used the same grit sandpaper on both panels.  Interesting…

Here she is again!!  The core is painted with antique white, the blue drawers are Olympic Satin “Turquoise Mist”, and the other drawers are “Hint of Olive” by Ace Hardware.  Lovely-just lovely!!  Now the room feels like it is coming together!!  You might also like to see my Family Gallery Wall hanging just above this cupboard.  Like I said, it feels like it is all coming together!  Whew!

Getting Ready For Holiday Guests

December 20, 2012 By Meegan 2 Comments

Are you getting ready for Holiday guests??  Are you tired of the same way you make your bed everyday?  Do you want to spruce your guest room up??  I have a few simple and no cost ideas to do just that!!

But before I share these ideas with you, I am Guest Hosting for Grace over at: Kitchen Table Art today!!!

banner

I hope you will visit Grace and tell her I sent you!!

Okay, let’s get show on the road!!You have extra throw pillows, tight?  Extra blankets??  That’s all you need to make your guests fill warm and welcome!!

aa 020_wmThis is my bed most days.  Inviting, but I like to try other ideas, too!

aa 021_wmSame look, but with an added homemade afghan laid across the foot of the bed.  Just a little added warmth.

aa 024_wmNow I covered the pillows with the afghan, adding just a touch of color with one pillow.

aa_wmThese are pillows from our TV room.  I added a throw to the foot of the bed for texture.

aa 022_wmI LOVE color!  I brought these pillows in from our living room.  The colors flow perfectly with the bedroom.  More texture-more color.

aa 025_wm (1)During the warmer months I pull down the comforter and fold it in thirds at the foot of the bed.

aa 028_wmTo accomplish a fun look, leave your bedding a little messy.  It looks like someone actually lives here.  I added the TV room pillows, making them a little messy, too.

aa 032_wmIt’s nice just nice to remove the comforter altogether adding a few pillows.  Yes, I made the coral pillow.

aa 030_wmTake your shams off,  and add a couple of throw pillows.  Then add the color at the end of your bed with a colorful hand made afghan.  Adding another throw on top.

Twelve Under $3 Christmas Decorating Ideas

December 8, 2012 By Meegan 21 Comments

I looked around our home and realized that I have Twelve under $3 Christmas decorating ideas!!  How cool is that?? Since I have so many, I thought I would share them with you, too!!

Chalkboards are such a fun trend right now-so make these super easy ones.  Using clothes pins you can put them anywhere, even on your tree!!

Decorate a paper mache’ ornament.  They are on sale everywhere right now!!  I know you already have paint and glitter.

Buy a book from the thrift store.  Roll up some cones and make a banner with stamps.  Easy!!

Use an old pickle jar, fill it with Epsom salts and place your tiny Christmas figurines in it.  Tie some twine around it, and even add a wire handle!!

Add some white and sparkle with a cotton ball tree!!  Simple and a great craft for the kiddos, too!!

Using another paper mache’ ornament, mod podge your torn book pages to it.  While it is still wet, sprinkle glitter on it!!  Looks like from PB don’t you think??

Flock your own tree!!  For a$1.50 you can buy “canned snow”.  I flocked 2 of our trees.  They look amazing!

Decorate your chandelier with greenery, sticks, pearls, and tulle.  Bring some of your icicle ornaments along, too.  Now your chandy is ready, too!

Copy some old Christmas Carole pages.  Tie some twine and clip with  a clothes pin to an empty frame. Wouldn’t this look great by a Nativity??

Make a book page garland to adorn around your tree!!  Super easy!!

Buy a couple of birdhouses to bring the outside, in!! Paint and glitter them up, and viola!!  Winter in your home!!

Speaking of bringing the outside in-bring in some old branches from a tree!  Hang some birdhouses and icicles on them and you are set!!

I hope you have enjoyed and been inspired by my Under $3 Christmas Decorations!!  You can always make your home look nice without spending a lot of money.  It has been a delight for me to share them with you!!

Thanks for stopping by today and letting me share what I love to do!

Make it a terrific Thursday!!

I’ve Got The Monday Blues

December 3, 2012 By Meegan 8 Comments

I’ve got the “Monday Blues” again!!  As in weeks past, I know you won’t be disappointed with the blues I am featuring today!!

Okay, let’s get this blue show on the road!!

Rhea is incredible at restoring and refreshing furniture.  This chair is no exception:

 Before Rhea’s transformation…

After Rhea’s vision and hard work.

Don’t you just LOVE this chair??  Rhea said,”This is a slip covered chair I delivered to my client this week. I loved it so much I didn’t want to deliver it!”

I don’t think I have seen blue that has taken my heart like this in a long time!!  Love it!!  Thanks for sharing this gorgeous blue Rhea!!

Another gorgeous blue for today is from one of my followers, Alycia.  This is her first Christmas as a newlywed!  How fun is that?

Alycia wrote: ” We both talked about wanting a Christmas tree this year but it just didn’t seem to be on top of the list so we didn’t worry about it anymore.  Then one day while I was at work, (I am a nanny) my nanny family wanted to take me shopping for my birthday present… Which they decided that they wanted to get me a Christmas tree and ornaments!! Marc and I have been blessed by the jobs we have and all the special gifts that come along with them!! Marc and I were fine with the idea of not having a Christmas tree this year, but now it has helped us get more in the Christmas mood as we put our tree up together!!”

“Christmas isn’t about the tree, but it brought my husband and I closer with memories that will last forever!”

Alycia made the bows “all by myself!! I am proud of them!!”

Now is that the sweetest blue story you have heard in a long time??  Thanks Alycia for sharing your blue and your story today!!

As for my blues today, I am loving my sticks with my blue glittery birdhouses!!

When I went out on Black Friday, I saw the cutest glittery birdhouse ornaments at Target.  They were $5 a pop.  Hmmm…The creative juices started flowing.  I needed those birdhouses to live in my sticks!!  I went to Joann’s to buy some bird houses.  They were $1 each!!  I love when that happens!!

Since I was painting wood, I thought I would just use my interior paint, rather than craft paint.  I also wanted them to sparkle,  so I got out my glitter.  And I was ready to go!!

Since I was painting wood, I thought I would just use my interior paint, rather than craft paint.  I also wanted them to sparkle,  so I got out my glitter.  And I was ready to go!!

While the paint was wet I sprinkled the glitter over the paint.  It worked and stuck like a charm!!

I used every color of blue paint that I own to paint my little bird houses.  And you know I own A LOT of BLUE paint!!

Don’t these little blue birdhouses look so happy with snowflakes and icicles???  They are just the right blue touch for our Christmas decorations this year.

The best part about these blues it that they are right next to my computer desk and I get to look at them while I am working on blog posts for you.

There you have it.  My “Monday Blues”  I love having you visit my blog and on  Pinterest, Facebook, Hometalk, Google +, Stumble Upon, Bloglovin’
