DIY Clamp & Crystal Sun Catcher

June 26, 2015 By Meegan 11 Comments

Well welcome! If you are new to What Meegan Makes-a hearty welcome! If you are a long time follower-Thanks for coming back again and again. I love having you here.

I was given the challenge of visiting Lowe’s and creating something in an unexpected way. While strolling through the aisles, I came upon some clamps. Hmmm…

DIY Clamp & Crystal Sun Catcher seemed to be just what I needed.

Clamp and Crystal Components

Combining the clamps, with crystals could be a unique and one of a kind way to decorate our balcony.

What I used:

clamps

crystals

monofilament

scissors

12 inch embroidery hoop

craft paint or fusion mineral paint

paint brushes

Krylon spray paint

Gorilla super glue

key ring

Clamp and Crystal Sun Catcher Tools

I measured out different lengths of monofilament. I wanted each clamp and crystal to be a altering lengths.

Sun Catcher Painted Embroidery Hoop

After spray painting the embroidery hoop with the Krylon metallic paint, and while the hoop was drying, I was ready to paint the clamps.

Fusion MIneral Paint Colors on Clamps

Using a Fusion MIneral Paint, I painted each clamp a different pastel color. I wanted the crystals bling to shine off of the colorful clamps.

Attaching Monofilament with Super Glue

Using Gorilla Super Glue, I was able to secure the string of monofilament to the hoop.

Crystal & Clamp Sun Catcher Instructions

To make an anchor base I attached 3 strings (all the same length) of monofilament to a key ring. Once again securing it with Gorilla Super glue for security.

DIY SunCatcher

Once the DIY Clamp and Crystal Sun Catcher were hung, my balcony looked so much better.

DIY Clamp Sun Catcher

I really like the various clamp colors. I am so glad I painted them. Now the crystals bounce their sparkle off of them, creating a rainbow of colors all day long.

Glowing Sun Catcher

As the sun goes down, the colors from the crystals and clamps become more intense.
