It’s Friday! Almost the weekend, and almost Summer. I am honored to have Field Trip Friday with Shanna from Restoration Redoux today. Shanna will dazzle you with her talent and creativity. I know you will enjoy Shanna’s work as much as I do.
Take it away Shanna…
Hi everyone! I’m Shanna from Restoration Redoux, and I’m super excited that my blogging buddy Meegan invited me over!
I’m a wife, a stay at home mom of 3 dogs, a cat, and an amazing teenage daughter. I’m a lover of yard sales, all things DIY, and decorating on a budget.
Going to yard sales is in my blood. Some of my earliest memories are going to yard sales with my grandmother. She was a doll collector, and I loved seeing the ratty, over-loved dolls she picked up for a quarter and watching her transform them into beautiful cherishables. She would clean them up, repair their clothes, and curl their hair until they looked brand new … and she made a living selling them.
I do sort of the same thing now except with furniture. I love taking old furniture pieces, ready for the dump, and breathing new life into them.
It’s always exciting when my clients send me photos of their pieces in their home like this Pink Striped Changing Table with DIY Frames that I made.
Since I started my furniture business, I have been so busy with custom work that I never had time to do any pieces for myself.
So when clients came to pick up their pieces, they expected to be awed by what I had personally done for myself …
That was so not the case.
Working from home, it is important to me to be happy with my surroundings, so in the last year I vowed to start doing some projects for my own house.
and my Turquoise dining set
These are all projects that are currently residing here (but maybe for sale to the right buyer — just sayin’).
As my daughter has pointed out, I have a strange job.
Whether it be hosting a “mock” wedding shower for no one, decorating the house for a Christmas Tour months in advance,
or finishing a Ruffled Lamp Shade at 2:00 in the morning. I definitely work way more hours now than I ever did at my previous job.
The difference is that I am now passionate about what I do. It may not be very glamorous as I’m throwing on my paint covered sweats everyday, but I have a sense of pride in what I do. Instead of waking up, dreading going to work, I’m excited about starting a new project and using my creativity.
Two years ago, I honestly didn’t know what the heck a blog was, and now this little blog of mine has changed my life.
