After moving furniture around our home the past few weeks (that post to come soon), I have been wanting some “new” accessories. You KNOW how much I like using books, right? Well, today I have a super simple and easy way to make some new accessories using vintage books without spending a penny. Sound fun? Why don’t I show you How To Paint and Embellish Vintage Books?
What you will need:
vintage books (I found mine at the thrift store for 75 cents)
craft paint
sponge brush
embellishments:
lace
pom poms
twine or string
doilies
anything that YOU like
My first step is to take off the paperback covers. It’s okay if it is a little tattered or even torn. That adds to the character. (In my opinion)
You may have seen some tutorials other places that use some type of chalky paint. For me, I just use Martha Stewart craft paint, and it works fabulous.
Using the sponge brush, I paint the front and back pages of the vintage book. You can also use ANY color that fits your own home. I chose a neutral color, then I could move them from room to room.
You can do 2 or more coats, but if you want to see see the words though the paint, use a light coat of paint. I like some of the print to show through.
Now for the creative part. Using the embellishments, begin to create your own vintage book accessories. Here I laid a doily on the front of the book and wrapped it with string. Easy peasy.
This adorable pom pom string was purchased at Michaels in the dollar section. LOVE it.
Lastly I used some left over rosettes from Stampin’ Up supplies. They add a vintage look for sure.
I had so much fun crafting and creating while I prepared How To Paint and Embellish Vintage Books. These will look great in any room as an additional accessory. Wouldn’t they be ideal for a shabby bedroom, bathroom and/or living room?
What do you have around YOUR home that you could use to embellish some vintage books?
I am glad you stopped by today. It’s fun to read your comments and thoughts.
I hope you will share How To Paint and Embellish Vintage Books with your friends.
Make it a fabulous Tuesday!
