My, oh my! I hit the jackpot at the thrift store last week! Wait until you see ALL the details of my Latest Thrifted Find-A Victorian Buffet Base. I know, I can hardly believe it, either…
This absolutely stopped me in my tracks. I was looking for a small dresser to put on my cottage apartment back porch, then I came upon this beauty. Wow!
First of all, when I walk into a thrift store, I am looking for something under $20. That goes for just about everything. Whether it’s a dresser, mirror, coffee table, clothes, etc… Twenty bucks is my limit.
I guess there are exceptions to the rule, right? Well there certainly was last week.
I spotted this Victorian piece across the room. It was the right width for what I was looking for. But the closer I got, the more I realized what I had stumbled upon.
The price was over my $20 limit. BUT, as I began to look at the stamped metal details, I couldn’t believe my eyes.
From the metal garlands, borders and inlaid doors, this piece was something I may NEVER come across again. Especially at THIS price.
Everywhere you see gold, are stamped metal features. Not painted. But METAL.
Don’t get me wrong. I realize this is a reproduction of the bottom half of a buffet or hutch. BUT, this reproduction is 50-60 years old. Regardless if it is original from the Louis XIV era or 1960s, it is a vintage piece.
The intricate characteristics are just stunning. And the handwork is perfection.
No matter where or who it was made by, the workmanship is incredible.
It is now a statement piece in the cottage living room.
I have already been asked if I am going to paint it. My answer is, “No, not at this point.” After doing my own research and reading. This piece, as is, is well worth over $700. I do realize, the price is what anyone would pay at any given time.
For the fact that I paid LESS than $100 for a fabulous Victorian Style Louis XIV piece is pretty amazing.
I was SO excited to share my Latest Thrifted Find-A Victorian Buffet Base with you. I am looking forward to styling it and enjoying it for years to come. It really gives this cottage apartment in the Vegas desert a touch of class and history. And what a lovely conversation piece it is!
