Lamps Plus Knock-off Lamp

September 18, 2014 By Meegan 2 Comments

So you all know that I LOVE a good DIY project, don’t you?  You also know I love to save money.  That’s what I did with a Lamps Plus Knock-off Lamp.  It hardly cost me anything!

Looking ALL over online stores, I found the lamp and shade I wanted.

Ummmm…

I already have this white vintage lamp.  Basically the same style.  Not, brass, but a similar shape.  And the shade is a drum shade.  It’s what I already have and I know what I want. So I got to work.

Using my Krylon Colormaster Metallic Gold spray paint.  I carefully painted the lamp.

Now onto the shade.  I bought my shade at Wal-Mart 4 years ago.  It has served me well, but it needed some spunk and life.

I thought burlap would give it the texture and feel I was hoping for.  Just like the Lampsplus shade.

I started by cutting the width of the shade plus 3 inches.  Then that way I had excess on each side to overlap the edges.  For me, it was easiest to adhere the burlap with a low-temp glue gun.  As I glued and pulled the burlap to make it as taut as it could be.

I did not glue on the shade itself but, on the top and bottom rim.  I took my time, as I wanted it to be flush against the shade.

Once I got to the end.  I didn’t want the rough edges to show.  So I carefully folded over the end and glued it to the shade.  This is also how it looks on the inside of the shade.  Clean and flush.

If your shade has a smaller top than bottom, the fabric will need to bend or turn a little.  Be patient.  Just keep pulling it taunt.  And it will turn out smooth.

Here is my “new” Lamps Plus Knock-off Lamp .  It looks just like I pictured in my mind…Well, even a little better.  (HUGE SMILE!)

I like how the gold paint reflects and shows the details in the lamp base.

My cost:  I bought the shade for $14. The lamp was a gift.  My burlap was $2 a yard and it took me about 2 yards to cover my shade.  SOOO, $14+$4=$18

Compared to $175, I did REALLY well.  PLUS I LOVE it.  That is what REALLY matters most, right???
