Hello Hello! It is great to be with you today. As you remember, I spent 10 days in Washington D.C. with one of our daughters. She text me before I got there and said, “How would you like to recover my chairs while you are here?” I replied with a HUGE YES! You may have seen many chair makeovers on Pinterest, but I wanted to show you How to Recover a Dining Chair Seat, my easy and simple way.
We started out with 6 chairs, looking like this. Not bad, at all. The whole set was given to our daughter for free. The BEST price, right?
Having a family of 7, she wanted something durable. And not plastic.
We headed to Joann’s. It didn’t take us too long before we found what she wanted.
The colors and pattern was just what she was hoping for.
It is an outdoor fabric, so it can withstand our daughter’s growing family, and can be cleaned up without a lot of effort.
What you will need:
enough fabric to cover your chairs, plus 4 to 5 inches around each side For this size of chair, we bought six yards. We had about 1 yard left over. (just enough for mistakes)
scissors
staple gun
staples
patience
Pulling the fabric tight, I stapled the fabric to the bottom of the chair. After stapling all four sides, It was time to fold and staple the corners.
I tucked them much like you would when you are making a bed. You know how you fold the top sheet to keep it secure? That is exactly how I folded the fabric. Then you have a nice smooth corner.
Here are two of the chairs finished and ready to use.
Isn’t the print SO much better? It brings life to what were rather boring chairs.
The good thing about it, is that when they get worn out, or she gets tired of the look, we will recover them again. Yep, it is as easy as that.
Do you have some dining chairs, a stool or bench that need to be recovered? You can use this tutorial for any type of fabric covered seat.
