Thrift Store Field Trip at SNAP

You have probably heard me mention my trip to SNAP. It is a HUGE blog conference held every Spring. This past Spring, I WON a ticket to SNAP! I know! It was really a blessing to attend. One of the cool and exciting things about SNAP besides the incredible classes, sponsors, hosts, parties, and roommates is the fact that you also can go on a Thrift Store Field Trip at SNAP.

And was it ever amazing. From meeting new friends, seeing incredible pieces of vintage items, we were guided on the trip by Mandi from Vintage Revivals and Brooke from All Things Thrifty. They are like celebs in the DIY, crafting, thrifting blog world.

Our first stop was with George. He owned ACRES of salvaged, used, worn antiques. I wasn’t in his garage very long before I spotted this:

Oh my goodness…

I didn’t know what I was even looking for when I got there, BUT, I knew I would find something. There was so many things to choose from and even with 50 buyers all in the same place at the same time, there was plenty for everyone.

But when I laid eyes on this wooden rack, grid thing, I KNEW I needed it.

I mean look at the rusty nails, and the hand stamped numbers. I couldn’t resist.

It was clearly handmade. You can tell by the inlaid pieces.

An the back was just as intriguing.

The worn wood and the water stains are just perfect in my eyes.

So what is it?

It is a heater floor grid made in the 1920s. Oh, the stories it could tell.

Once I found out what it was I could hardly wait to ask George a price. It twas exactly what I was looking for.

George said he would give each of us a SNAP discount, so I was crossing my fingers. I had a dollar amount in my mind, but I knew his prices were higher than I liked.

He told me normally it was priced at $75. Whew, too steep for me!

BUT, because I was there on the Thrift Store Field Trip at SNAP, he would only charge me $20. SOLD!

As we headed to the bus, I am sure I was beaming. As was everyone else that purchased something for George.

I happily have my 1920s heater floor grid hanging on my thrifted living room door. AND with my handmade wreath, even better.

It was an awesome Thrift Store Field Trip at SNAP! One I won’t soon forget.
