Simple Thanksgiving Shelves

November 5, 2014 By Meegan Leave a Comment

Hello! And Happy Wednesday.  It has been a full week of traveling to visit the grandkids. Hubby and I took 6 days off to go trick or treating, visit Beverly Hills, eat, play games, sew, shop, eat, and sing Happy Birthday to a grandson.

I am settling back at home again.  Our home is filled with Thanksgiving, pumpkins, wreaths and giving thanks.

The Simple Thanksgiving shelves are in a central part of our home.  You see them as soon as you walk in the front door.

I like finding old books and using them as “pedestals” for my accessories.  Candle sticks work really well, too.  Do you do the same thing?

I found a printable on Hometalk and was so excited to incorporate it in my Thanksgiving decor.  (Especially since it has a blue pumpkin)

Give Thanks Shelves

Using my own cardboard chalkboard I scripted “Give Thanks”.  It’s good for all of us to give thanks everyday, not just at Thanksgiving.  What’s that saying? “There is always something to be thankful for”?  I believe that will all my heart.

I made my pine cone and pecan garland last year for Christmas decor.  I have used it for lots of other holidays, as well.  It’s my frosting on the cake for the Simple Thanksgiving shelves.

Give Thanks Cardboard Chalkboards

I love accessorizing with my book page wreaths. The pages are aged and a little torn for texture.  Using painted and accessorize clothes pins to hang my Give Thanks Chalkboards worked perfectly.

Filling my green bottles with old, broken sticks was just the added touch I needed to finish off the look I was wanting for this year’s Thanksgiving decor.

I hope you are giving thanks today and everyday for all that you have.

Leave me a comment telling me what you are thankful for. I would love to know!

If you are looking for or wanting new traditions in your family, come back on Friday for loads of ideas.

Happy Friday. What a beautiful time of year. The colors are changing, the leaves are falling and the air has a crisp feel.  I love it.

That leads us into the thought of Thanksgiving and  how to set a lovely table for your Thanksgiving feast.  I am always on the look for something creative and original for our table setting.  And I thought you might be too, so I have collected eight Thanksgiving Place Cards YOU Can Make.

There is Always Something To Be Thankful For

There is Always Something To Be Thankful For.  That is my mantra for the week.  I try to use it everyday of my life but, this week it was needed a little more.

This week has been one of the hardest weeks I have had in a long time.    My dad was admitted to the hospital with failing health.  I stayed every waking moment with him that I could.

He has kidney failure, heart failure, diabetes, bronchitis, and Parkinson’s.  It is a hard thing to watch someone you love suffer.  It does break your heart.

And, yet I know…

I KNOW this with ALL of my heart.
As I visited and sat with my failing Dad.  I was reminded of the blessing he has been in my life.  The wonderful grandpa he has been to our children and grand-babies.
The bags and bags of groceries he would buy, just because.  The Christmas mornings watching his face watch the kids open presents.  This was priceless.  The Thanksgiving dinners filled with turkey and Honey Baked Ham (his favorite).  The graduations attended, the soccer and football games, the choir concerts, beauty pageants, all with his excitement and glory reveling in his grandchildren.
That is what I am thankful for today.  I am grateful to have spent countless hours just sitting by his side.  Also, listening to each of our nearby children share their love of their Papa.  Words of love, that will forever warm my heart and soul.  Singing from a daughter that will be etched in my heart forever.  I have so much to be thankful for.
I hope and pray I never forget
There is Always Something To Be Thankful For.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families.
