My Weekend Bridal Flowers

August 27, 2013 By Meegan 21 Comments

My Weekend Bridal FlowersI really haven’t been doing bridal flowers for very long.  My first interest and duty was to decorate for weddings and/or receptions.   Through watching and learning from my sweet friend, Wendy (she was my maid of honor when we got married), I moved on to doing the bridal flowers and bouquets.

My Weekend Bridal FlowersI became interested because I was paying almost $20 for a boutonniere that I knew I could make myself.  So, I was eager and anxious to learn.  Since then, I made all of the boutonnieres and corsages for our kids’  and their dates.  It was a fun thing for the kids because it was personalized and exactly what they wanted. (This picture was taken in our bathroom aka the floral cooler.  I kept the flowers in ice water for 2 days before the wedding)

My Weekend Bridal FlowersI learned to work with several types of flowers,  Each is unique in their care prior to the placement in the bouquet. For more tips on floral care on my blog visit here.

My Weekend Bridal FlowersIt takes practice and lots of broken stems before you get it right.  I loved these colors to work with.  (This is one of the 4 bridesmaids bouquets. There were tiny hints of mint green throughout the wedding party, so it was fun to add the small peeks of green.)

My Weekend Bridal FlowersStyles change, and each bride has their own vision of what their bouquet should look like.  Sometimes it’s a challenge. But, my goal is to make that happen.

My Weekend Bridal FlowersI would have to say my most recent love to work with would be succulents.  They are hearty, but very delicate.  Their root is so strong, but the petals could end up falling apart in your hands while you are working.

My Weekend Bridal FlowersPeople ask me all the time if it takes a long time to make bridal bouquets.  My answer is: Yes, it does.  You wire the flowers, place them where you want them,  and wrap them with floral tape for security.  If it isn’t what you want or picture, you unwrap them and start again. Sometimes again and again.

My weekend bridal flowersYou do this several times until it’s what you want.  I LOVED the burlap, ribbon and vintage lace for this particular bouquet. For the bride’s “something old”, I added my great-grandma’s lace.  I knew it would make the bride and my great-grandma smile.  Also, see the brown edges on the roses?  Those petals are left on until just before I hand them to the bride-so they appear at their peek of freshness.)

My Weekend Bridal FlowersI love, love, love the variety of flowers for this bouquet.  It was vintage and trendy at the same time.

I hope you have enjoyed my weekend bridal flowers today.  It was a beautiful wedding with many other flowers that I will share with you later in the week.

Thanks for stopping by today and joining me on my blog.  It is always a pleasure to have you here!

Make it a terrific Tuesday!

Tickled Pink Times Two Features and A Party

August 23, 2013 By Meegan 15 Comments

Hello Hello!  Welcome to Tickled Pink Times Two Features and a Party!!  I am so happy to have you here today!!  I would love for you to meet Holly from 504 Main.  She is a sweetie loaded with talent and spunk!!

Tickled Pink Times Two Features and A Party

Before we get started, I would like to introduce myself to all the 504 Main followers!

Intro

My own style seems to gravitate towards cottage, beach, white, blues, greens, antiques and collectibles. There always has to be blue somewhere.  I love the ocean-the white foaming waves, the sound of  waves crashing, the feel of the water, searching for shells, the birds, and the smell of the crisp, salt air.

Our home is always a work in progress.  We built a home and lived there to raise our family for over 20 yrs. Now our kids are all grown up and we have moved into a condo.  It has been fun for me to work and create a haven for us at this time in our lives.

Back To School Folder Covered With Duck Tape®

August 15, 2013 By Meegan 4 Comments

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walmart for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I am so excited for school to start!  So many of our grandkiddos are starting school next week.  One thing on my list was Duck Tape® .  I know, that might be a weird item to be on this grandma’s list, but…
Just in case you didn’t know all the amazing things you can do with Duck Tape®, listen up! You can use Duck Tape® to create, embellish and decorate! You can make things for teachers as welcome gifts! You can make a custom name plate for your children’s desk or classroom cubby. Older students can cover their books in paper bags and embellish/decorate/customize with Duck Tape®! Or maybe a customized Duck Tape® mirror for the middle schoolers locker?
Can’t you just hear and feel the bustle of back to school when you visit Walmart?  I visited my local Walmart yesterday, because I wanted to make something special for one of the grandkiddos.  Not only did I see amazing prices everywhere, but look what I found!

Back To School Folder Covered With Duck Tape®

Yep, you got it-buy Duck Tape® at Walmart! Not just the typical silver Duck Tape® , every color and pattern that you could ever want or need! This was right near the painting aisle. I spent several minutes just browsing through all of it.

Once I was done looking there, the Walmart associate showed me ANOTHER Duck Tape® display over by the crafts!!

The creative juices started flowing, and I knew what I wanted to make for the grand kiddos for back to school!

Back To School Folder Covered With Duck Tape®

I bought a paper binder with brads and pockets and my favorite Duck Tape® for a certain 7th grade grandson. He is on Student Council and needs to stay organized. The spattered paint Duck Tape® will be perfect for him! Gotta love Duck Tape®!

Back To School Folder Covered With Duck Tape®

I started by covering the folder with strips of Duck Tape® . I layered them just a little, so the folder wouldn’t show through.

Back To School Folder Covered With Duck Tape®

I covered the folder using my strips of durable and strong Duck Tape® .

I made sure to cover the pockets as well. To keep it durable and long lasting throughout his time on Student Council this year.

Back To School Folder Covered With Duck Tape®

Using Duck Tape® there is NO WAY this folder will fall apart, rip, or tear!

It is the best thing ever for covering this folder, making wallets, creating flowers, or even repairing a down jacket!! (Shhh..don’t tell Hubby I told you that he fixed his jacket with Duck Tape®)

So next time you run in for a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread, head on over and buy Duck Tape at Walmart too! Keep it on your shopping list-you never know what you might come up with! Maybe even a Back to School Folder Covered with Duck Tape®

Thanks for joining while I made a Back To School Folder Covered With Duck Tape®!

Happy Back To School!!
