DIY Glittery Christmas Cottage

November 22, 2017 By Meegan 1 Comment

If you are looking for a simple and easy Christmas craft, try making a DIY Glittery Christmas Cottage.

This is SO easy and yet adds a beautiful look tor your Christmas and Holiday vignettes. I think I could/will even keep my DIY Glittery Christmas Cottage out through Winter.

When I was walking through Hobby Lobby, I came across a paper mache’ house. Right away, I knew I wanted to paint it white and cover it with iridescent glitter. I already had what I needed at home, so I was ready to go.

What you will need to make a DIY Glittery Christmas Cottage:

1 paper mache’ house

white craft paint

mod podge

iridescent glitter

a sponge brush

The house that I bought is in 2 separate pieces. The roof comes off the house base.

I painted the whole house with 2 coats of craft paint. I would have used spray paint, but I didn’t have any.

UGH! I should have bought some when I was out, but, you know how that goes, right?

Once the paint was completely dry, I used a sponge brush to cover each section with mod-podge. I did one “wall” at a time. I was careful to make sure all of the walls were covered.

I used a spoon to sprinkle the glitter on the walls. Using my fingers, I pressed the glitter into the wet mod podge.  I added at least 3 layers of glitter. This probably took the longest time. But, I wanted the DIY Glittery Christmas Cottage to shimmer in all types of light.

You can see all of the glitter in this picture. I didn’t edit this picture intentionally, so you could see how the Christmas cottage glistens in the day light.

Can you see how easy this was? It took 2 hours at the most. I wasn’t in a hurry. I was taking my time. I am excited because I have a certain spot for my DIY Glittery Christmas Cottage in our Master bedroom.

Thanks for joining me today.
