DIY Patriotic Wooden “Books”

June 22, 2015 By Meegan 12 Comments

Oh man! Has it ever been hot here.  I got in the car the other day and it was a whooping 122*. Yes, you read that right. It was the hottest I had ever seen it. But, I have been keeping cool in the pool and getting ready for the 4th of July, by creating my DIY Patriotic Wooden “Books”.

I KNOW you will want some for your home and parties, so I thought I would show you how I made them.

DIY Patriotic Wooden Books

I was actually inspired by my friend Cindy. She gave me my own set of DIY Patriotic Wooden “Books” years ago. But after moving SEVERAL times, I have lost a few pieces. So I made a new set for myself.

What you will need:

3 blocks wood-1 x 3 1/2 x 7 inches

red white blue black craft paint

paint brushes-one fine tip for writing letters

q-tip

sandpaper

jute or bakers twine

4th of July Decor

You may or may not want to snad your wood ahead of time. It is totally up to you. The more rough it is, the more rustic it will be.

Fourth of July Wooden Decor

Using a wide brush, paint the block of wood.

4th of July Liberty Block

After the paint is dry, use your fine tip brush and write a patriotic word, such as liberty, America, or freedom.

Liberty Block with Stars

Using a q-tip draw several stars. It is easier than you think. You could even use a stencil or sponge, if you have one.

Fourth of July Wood Decor

I even liked to put one one top for added color. Once all the paint was dry, I sanded each piece to look worn and aged.

Patriotic Blocks

Once all three are done, bind them together with jute or bakers twine. They look like books, don’t they?

I like them on their side as well. These are perfect for your porch, serving table, as a hostess gift, or even as a gift for your 4th of July party guests.

DIY Patriotic Wooden Books

I hope you make some soon and let me know what you came up with. I would love for you to email me pictures of what you have done, so I can share them on my FB Page and Instagram.

Thanks for visiting me today and learning how to make your own DIY Patriotic Wooden “Books”. The pleasure has been all mine.
