How To Stencil A Wall

September 9, 2015 By Meegan 3 Comments

If you follow me on Periscope or Instagram, you know that I have recently stenciled our living room. It has been really fun and I wanted to show YOU how to stencil a wall (the easy way).

The whole job could be daunting, or even sound overwhelming. BUT, I did my whole wall by myself in 5 hrs, with an hour and half break.

Let me give you some tips that will help your stenciling go a lot smoother.

How To Stencil Your Living Room Wall

I was lucky enough to have Cutting Edge Stencils contact me. I received a stencil of my choice.

At first I wanted to stencil my vintage cupboard. BUT, then I thought of how fun it would look on our living room wall.

I painted it Ocean Mist from Clake and Kensington right after we moved in and before I started a blog.

Cutting Edge Stencil Tools

First of all, Cutting Edge Stencils are high quality. They aren’t like the stencils you buy at the craft store. They are heavy thickness and easy to use.

There is a link in the directions to watch their Youtube Video. Definitely worth your time to watch!

You will also receive a paint roller a stipple brush and my personal favorite-a level!

Here are my tips on How To Stencil a Wall (the easy way)

1-Read ALL the directions that come with your stencil.

2-As you are adding paint to your roller or brush, use very little paint, like I did with my stenciled burlap sign.

3-Use a quality paint tape to hold your stencil in place. No cheap stuff. Your stencil will continue to fall, and will take you twice as long.

4-USE the level that will come in your Cutting Edge Stencil package. It will help your whole project to be easier.

5-Enjoy the process and have fun!

I wanted something to tone down the blue wall.  It was a little too bright for me.

The paint I used for the stencil was Fusion Mineral Paint. The color is called Lamp White. It has a gray tone to it. Perfect for what I was trying to create.

Can you tell how much I like my “new” wall? REALLY, it was easy and before I started I decided I would take my time. I wouldn’t rush the process. I really think that with quality products, you can’t go wrong.

A HUGE thank you to Cutting Edge Stencils for my Alyssa Scroll stencil and the tools to make my wall exactly what I pictured. I was compensated for this post, but ALL opinions and ideas are completely mine.

I hope you learned something today about how to stencil a wall. Cutting Edge Stencils hundreds of choices for you to choose from. From modern to Moroccan to flowers to ceiling medallions.
