How To Stencil On Burlap

July 27, 2015 By Meegan 9 Comments

Hello everyone! I am actually on my way to Virginia as you are reading this. I am blessed enough to see and help our daughter and her family move into a “new to them” house. I will be gone for a week, BUT I didn’t want you to miss out on learning How To Stencil On Burlap.

Have YOU ever stenciled on a burlap canvas before? It is fairly easy, BUT could be a little tricky.  I am excited to show you How To Stencil On Burlap. I will be using a sample from the new line of stencils designed by my friend Angie from Knick of Time.

Stencil from Knick of Thyme

How amazing is that, to have your own line of stencils?

When you order your stencils this is what you will receive:

*your stencil

*a list of other stencils available

*stenciling brush

* detailed directions on how to use your stencil

Stenciling on burlap is tricky, because you don’t want to have too much paint on your brush. It will bleed through the burlap and through your stencil leaving an extra “bubble” like paint spot. This is not good.

Stenciling on Burlap

I decided to use a burlap canvas for my new stenciled sign. (this can be purchased at any craft store) Carefully placing it in the center of the canvas I was ready to go.

How To Stencil On Burlap

After dipping a small amount of Fusion Mineral Paint (Homestead Blue) on my brush, I dabbed the paint on a dry paper towel until the brush was ALMOST DRY. Then I was ready to start stenciling.

It took a few times of using this method to create the look I wanted.

By using vary little paint on my brush I was able to create a variegated look in the lettering.  AND, the stenciling is crisp and detailed. That the look you want when you stencil, otherwise it looks sloppy and half thought about.

It’s okay if you think you don’t have enough paint on your brush, or you think it is too dry. THAT is exactly how it SHOULD be.

I love the clean, crisp look of the stencil from Knick of Time.

The shadowing came out just how I wanted it. Every detail from the stencil appears to perfection. From the shape of the letters to the dot after CO. What a fine quality stencil.

I am happy you stopped by today. I hope you have learned a little more about how to stencil on burlap, and will take a few minutes to check out ALL of the varieties of stencils from Knick of Time very soon.

What kind of project would you use a stencil for?

I think my next project using these stencils will be a pillow for our front porch. Wouldn’t that be fun?

Make it a wonderful day!

This looks wonderful, Meegan! My dad was in the dairy industry and I have a bunch of old milk bottles. Displaying a sign like yours with his milk bottles would make a great focal point.
