DIY Patriotic Mantel

July 1, 2026 By Meegan Leave a Comment

I just love decorating this mantel in our apartment cottage any time of year. So when I started gathering pieces together for this DIY Patriotic Mantel, it couldn’t be easier using what I already had.

Including a few Christmas decorations! So fun when that happens.

If you have been following me for awhile, you will remember that I found this mantel in a facebook group. It has been painted a few times since then. One of the local hotels was remodeling, and I got lucky enough to purchase it.

When starting to decorate for a DIY Patriotic Mantel, I used my (much loved, pinned and asked about) DIY American Flag Banner.

Oh my goodness! Can you believe how CUTE the Holly Hobbie patriotic card is? I actually have had it for 50 years. I kept it not only for the sentiment, but because it’s so darling. And ALL these years later I can use it in this decorating idea.

When the creative juices started flowing, and the storage tubs were open, the bottle brush trees popped into mind! It hadn’t dawned on me until then that there were actually red, white and blue bottle brush trees from Christmases past were already for patriotic decorating.

Not something I would typically use, but ideal for this mantel style.

You can find your own red white and blue bottle brush trees, too. I will link them here>>>

Blue, Red, White

The sequin star ornament was a gift from my daughter, as well as a few more. I REALLY like the gold star in the center, don’t you?

Using simple white vases and a small flag adds more interest, height and dimension.

The wooden decorative corbels are original from a farmhouse in Virginia. I was there visiting a daughter and met a lady in an antique store that was restoring her 1800s farmhouse. I got a steal of a deal-AND the chippy goodness is always a plus!

I hope you have liked what you see and gotten some inspiration for your own DIY patriotic ideas. Enjoy, have fun and if YOU like what you design-it’s perfect!
