I love patriotic holidays. It’s fun to fly the red, white and blue inside and outside of my cottage apartment. This simple DIY Framed Patriotic Wreath Tutorial couldn’t be easier.
Using a vintage frame surrounding a handmade wreath is an innovative way to design a unique patriotic style.
Julie from Redhead Can Decorate has organized the Thrifty Style Team. This month the theme is: Patriotic.
I couldn’t be happier. My birthday happens to be the 4th of July, so it’s a special holiday for me. And I can’t think of a better birthday. I am a blessed woman-for sure.
With 17 patriotic ideas, crafts and DIY projects, you are sure to find something just for you. I will be sharing all of the links at the end of this post.
What you will need for your own patriotic framed wreath:
large frame-large enough to fit a 10 inch wreath
1/2 yard red polka dot fabric
1/2 yard blue and white striped fabric
5-2 inch x 10 inch drop cloth strips
10 inch straw or foam wreath form
hot glue gun
hot glue sticks
scissors
measuring tape
Begin by measuring the opening of your frame. Mine was 14 inches x 9 inches, so I cut a 18 x 15 inch piece so there was room to attach the fabric with hot glue. Or if you have another preference, by all means, use that. As you are gluing, pull the fabric as tight as you can for a smooth look.
When I use a straw wreath, I keep the plastic wrap on it, just to avoid a terrible mess. Begin wrapping the drop cloth strips smoothly around the wreath form, gradually using hot glue to adhere the cloth for a tight fit.
For a 10 inch wreath, I cut a 4x 22 inch strip of the blue and white stripe fabric. This will be long enough to wrap around the wreath and leaving a long tail. (I like the salvaged edge at the bottom for a rustic look.)
Wrap the striped fabric around the wreath and tie a square knot. Right over left, left over right. This will help keep the fabric in place.
Carefully “stuff” the wreath inside the frame. Use hot glue to attach the wreath.
Your wreath is ready for displaying on your front porch, hanging on your front door, or as a gift for your friend.
Of course, you can easily omit the frame and add a sprig of greenery and a flag-for a whole new look. Personally I like both. What about you?
I’m so glad you stopped by for my DIY Framed Patriotic Wreath Tutorial, today.
