Summer Beach Cottage Shelf

May 7, 2013 By Meegan 13 Comments

This is a post from last Fall, but I think it applies to now just as well, since Spring and Summer are upon us.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did pulling it together.

I know for some of you Summer is almost over.  But, I don’t want it to end.  I love the sun, the water, the warmth, the sound of people enjoying the outdoors, etc…  I like to pretend we live in a beach cottage.  I know I am old, I shouldn’t be pretending like that.  But it is my dream-and we live in the desert so this is my only way to get that Summer beach cottage feeling.

In an effort to avoid getting my Fall Decor out, I rearranged my shells, and my candles on the top shelf of our bookcase.  I looked around my home to see what I could come up with.  It took me about 15 minutes to finish.  I have shared this part of our living room with you before.

Before:

It is nice.  But I still needed the frame for the book page wreath, and the shelves are way too crowded.

After:  I looked in our bathrooms,  and in the kitchen, then found just what I had in mind.  Much Better!

A close up of my goodies.  Yes, those are dried artichokes in the vase.  Thanks PB!  The candlesticks were all thrifted and placed in various areas of our home.  I like them together now.  I tied string around each candle for a more beachy feel.

The rocks and shells each represent a vacation or a beach trip.  The books are some of our favorites that we have taken to the beach or pool with us to relax and read as we soak up the sun.

Another look.  I found the sticks from a stick tree I added to our living room.  I just love sticks, don’t you???  I LOVE how everything looks so good with the frame and wreath, too.

The coral is from Maui and the smaller shells are from Tahiti.  The candlestick is a thrift find.  Everything looks better tied with twine or string, doesn’t it?

You will recognize this stand when I made a $3 cloche.  The cloche is just under this shelf with dried hydrangeas in it now.  LOVE!!
Yep, I am not ready for Summer to end!!  So I will leave my Summer beach cottage shelves up for awhile.  Until I absolutely need to change them.  But, for now it is still summer, right?  Come on-tell me “Right”.

Six Fall/Thanksgiving Decorating Ideas

November 10, 2012 By Meegan 11 Comments

Oh my!!  Fall is upon us and Thanksgiving is just days away.  I thought it would be fun to share with you  Six Fall/Thanksgiving Decorating Ideas.  I LOVE using my kitchen shelves as a focal point.   I chose to decorate them with 2 different styles, so you can see how easy and simple Thanksgiving decor can be.

My first choice is going with all whites, browns and a touch of blue (you know how I love blue!)

I love the outcome of this look.  I used a jar from my croquet box filled with book page cones.  I also painted my little pumpkins, that used to be orange.  Super easy!!  I really like to use empty frames so I used this one from my tv room.

I used the same PB knockoff pumpkin from my Halloween Shelves.  I think it goes perfectly with the theme.  I have my grandparents old books that I used for levels.  The pine cones are from outside.  Again-easy peasy!!

I think is goes very well with my Fall Paper decor

For my #2 idea: I added Fall colors to my Fall Shelves, because Hubby still likes the traditional orange (which happens to be his fave color)

I used a few of the same elements, but added some traditional Thanksgiving colors as well.  Don’t you just love this scarecrow?  He is my fave!!

For my #3 idea:

I am so pleased with my Fall Coffee Table.  Simple and easy to bring Thanksgiving into our home.  I painted this orange pumpkin white to blend with my ideas.  I also rolled some book pages for a wreath look.

For my #4 craft:

Another great idea to bring Thanksgiving into your home.  Using your used jars and add book pages with mod podge. Let your imagination go and create something wonderful for your table or mantel with these.

For #5 decor:

I had so much fun making this paper decor!!  Again-easy simple and inexpensive!!  It took me less than an hour to put this altogether.  This would also look great as a centerpiece, don’t you think?

And, #6:

I also added some Fall decor on my bookshelf for a more Thanksgiving/Cottage feel to our home.   I love to use my PB artichokes all over the house!!  I love them in this vessel.  They are perfect with the pumpkins and gourds.

I hope you have been inspired to decorate for Fall with my Six Fall/Thanksgiving Decorating Ideas.  It’s fun to change up and move around accessories to get ready for the Holidays, don’t you think?
Make it a Super Saturday!!

Twelve Under $3 Christmas Decorating Ideas

December 8, 2012 By Meegan 21 Comments

I looked around our home and realized that I have Twelve under $3 Christmas decorating ideas!!  How cool is that?? Since I have so many, I thought I would share them with you, too!!

Chalkboards are such a fun trend right now-so make these super easy ones.  Using clothes pins you can put them anywhere, even on your tree!!

Decorate a paper mache’ ornament.  They are on sale everywhere right now!!  I know you already have paint and glitter.

Buy a book from the thrift store.  Roll up some cones and make a banner with stamps.  Easy!!

Use an old pickle jar, fill it with Epsom salts and place your tiny Christmas figurines in it.  Tie some twine around it, and even add a wire handle!!

Add some white and sparkle with a cotton ball tree!!  Simple and a great craft for the kiddos, too!!

Using another paper mache’ ornament, mod podge your torn book pages to it.  While it is still wet, sprinkle glitter on it!!  Looks like from PB don’t you think??

Flock your own tree!!  For a$1.50 you can buy “canned snow”.  I flocked 2 of our trees.  They look amazing!

Decorate your chandelier with greenery, sticks, pearls, and tulle.  Bring some of your icicle ornaments along, too.  Now your chandy is ready, too!

Copy some old Christmas Carole pages.  Tie some twine and clip with  a clothes pin to an empty frame. Wouldn’t this look great by a Nativity??

Make a book page garland to adorn around your tree!!  Super easy!!

Buy a couple of birdhouses to bring the outside, in!! Paint and glitter them up, and viola!!  Winter in your home!!

Speaking of bringing the outside in-bring in some old branches from a tree!  Hang some birdhouses and icicles on them and you are set!!

I hope you have enjoyed and been inspired by my Under $3 Christmas Decorations!!  You can always make your home look nice without spending a lot of money.  It has been a delight for me to share them with you!!

Thanks for stopping by today and letting me share what I love to do!

My Winter White Shelves

January 10, 2013 By Meegan 18 Comments

I am really loving my winter white shelves.  They look so cozy and welcoming.  To decorate them, I “shopped” around my house.  Do you ever go “shopping” in your home, too?  It’s so fun!!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I wanted to have a Winter White look.  Not stark white, but creams and whites combined.  It was easy to start with my creamy white shelves…

My Winter White Shelves

Shopping around the house is easy, fun and cheap.  I started out with my book page wreath as a base for the whole look.  I loved adding the pine cone garland to add some texture.  I like making it uneven for variety.

My Winter White Shelves

I am in love with this clock from our TV Room, because it is white(ish) and perfect for this look.

My Winter White Shelves

The top shelf  is shared by my cute angel (a gift from a dear friend), a tray full of 3 candles and pine cones (a gift from our daughter-she knows her Momma well), my cute plump bird, and the tiny urn.  I painted both the bird and the urn after I purchased them.  I couldn’t resist!!

My Winter White Shelves

The bottom shelf holds the clock, 3 candles (From our son’s wedding), a tea cup made by my grandma, and a simple white pot (from my sister-in-law).  I also added some dried hydrangeas to add an ever so tiny bit of color.

 My Winter White Shelves

This is my view if I turn around and look from my computer desk.  Pretty cool, huh?  White, Wintery, and I did it all by “shopping” right at home!!  No money spent and I had a great time putting it together!!  You can’t beat that, right??

If you like these winter white shelves, you might also like my winter book shelves in the living room, too!!

I am glad you stopped by today!  I love reading your comments and thoughts!  They really make me smile!!
