Silver Inspired Nativity

November 13, 2014 By Meegan 3 Comments

Good morning and happy Thursday!  I am happy to be here along with LOTS of other bloggers sharing our knockoffs, Holiday Edition.  As you might know, I collect nativities.  I have since I was first married.  I TRY to get a new one each year.

I am loving metallic right now and priced this beauty. But it was not meant to be. (I am a cheapskate and, I love a good deal)  SO, I thought, “Why not make my own Silver Inspired Nativity.”

Have you ever shopped with Department 56?  There are LOTS of novelties and Christmas decor.

Vintage Silver Set

Ebay Listing for $149.95

I went on the hunt for a nativity set that was on the smallish size because our home is small and I want to show off ALL of the Nativity sets I have.

I chose one from Dollar Tree.  It’s cute, has all the important figures, and for a dollar a piece, I was set.

My first task was to spray paint them with Krylon Silver Metallic Paint.  It dries within 15 minutes, so it went by fast.

Now that they had 2 coats of paint, I was ready for the next step.

This finish has actual metals in it.  You have to shake it REALLY well, so it is VERY mixed.

Using a small paint bristle brush, I began to add the silver metallic surfacer.

I let my Silver Inspired Nativity dry over night before touching them.  They are now weatherproof and ideal for outside, as well.

I love the new look.  AND I have a Silver Inspired Nativity.

I KNOW if Hubby knew I wanted a REAL silver Nativity, he would have bought it for me.  But, making my own was a lot more fun, and I like it even more than if I had the REAL deal.

I hope you will take a minute to see ALL of the other Rock Your Knockoffs Holiday Edition below. There are SOME AMAZING ideas and creativity.

Thanks for joining me today.  I LOVE your visits and your comments.

Meegan, I’m so late in getting over to see your super knock off! I love this idea! You’ve inspired me, we have an old (ugly) nativity set in the garage. I’m giving it a facelift like yours! Super project my friend! Sharing!
