Themed Furniture Makeover Day

April 23, 2015 By Meegan 14 Comments

Welcome to Themed Furniture Makeover Day!  It’s that one time a month when several bloggers do a furniture makeover. It’s always fun to see the interpretation that each blogger takes.Themed Furniture Makeover Day Buttton

This month’s theme is Pottery Barn Inspired. I thought this would be a pretty easy theme. But after perusing though PB online and their catalogs, I was a little stumped.

But this is the piece I wanted to mimic:

Pottery Barn

Their cost: $279

No, thank you.

Searching high and low for a few weeks, I wasn’t sure the right piece would be found. In my mind I wanted to either refurbish my desk, an end table OR a coffee table.

UNTIL…

Goodwill Night Stand

After looking through my 5th thrift store of the day…

I came across this night stand. Hmmm…I really don’t NEED a night stand, BUT I do need a small table in our living room. PLUS it had all the elements and details of my inspiration piece! To say I was thrilled was an understatement.

Goodwill Nightstand

This was just the right piece for me. It was $15.

Finding it a little dinged up and chipped was not a problem at all. Besides the fact, it was 50% off day!

Yay! $7.50 and I was out the door.

To give this piece a TRUE PB look, white paint would be the best choice . Trying something a little different this time-I made chalky paint with Plaster of Paris. Have YOU ever tried that?

PB Knockoff Nightstand Details

The recipe I used was:

1 1/2 cups flat paint (Valspar Birchwood White)

1 1/2 Tablespoons Plaster of Paris

1/3 cup water

This type of paint covered the wood so smoothly. It took a couple of coats to get it how I wanted it. It was definitely worth it.

PB Inspired End Table Makeover

If you know me at all, you KNOW I can’t leave anything without a little sanding.

PB Inspired Side Table Makeover

Using a 120 grit sandpaper took off a little around the drawer and edges.

Corner PB Inspired Side Table

Not too chippy, but to have some character.

Aged PB End Table Knock Off

I went with the original drawer handle. The patina and/or worn look are my kind of taste. How about you?

Did I mention this table is solid hardwood Maple? It also has tongue and groove drawers.

For a little surprise and a pop of color, I added some fun (wrapping) paper as a drawer liner.

Remember what it looked like before?

Now it has found a spot in our home for a long, long time.

Thanks for joining me today for themed furniture makeover day. I had a great time.

Make it a lovely day filled with your own furniture makeover!
