Tonight I am thrilled to share of of my favorite furniture makeovers and one of MY BEST DIYs, to date.
From Garage Sale Bench to Farmhouse Coffee Table meeganmakes.com

CoffeeTable Before
I bought this coffee table {which is actually a bench} at a garage sale.  I paid $15 for it. When I bought it it was all brown.  The top is just press board.  You can see it when I painted it white here.
Do you ever have those times when you picture something in your mind and is just doesn’t turn out how you pictured?  Well, that is what happened when I painted it cream and stenciled it.  Boo.  I think it looked bad.  Not, bad, but awful.
Instead of keeping something awful in our living room, I had another idea.  I KNEW I was going to like this SO much better…
Farm House Coffee Table wood
I headed over to Lowes and bought a 9 ft 1×6 pine plank.  I had them cut in thirds for me.  {Yay!  I was on my to my vision.} I chose a piece of wood with lots of knots, for some added character.
FarmHouse Planks Stained
Using a Rustoleum Stain called Dark Walnut, I stained the planks.  Once they were dry, I sanded the ends and the edges.  Looking good so far.
Farmhouse Table Top Stain
I was SO looking forward to hiding the white and the stenciling!  Using the same Dark Walnut stain I covered the top of the table top where there could be small spaces in-between the planks.  I also stained all around the sides of the table.
Coffee Table Top before sanding and painting
With liquid nails, I adhered the stained planks of wood to the table top.  Now it looks like a thicker, heavier top.
Tabletop Gaps
As I suspected there are spaces in-between the planks.  But that is okay, I have a plan for that.
Coffee Table Paint Mixed
Now, for a new color for the legs and table apron. I mixed two colors from Valspar to get a softer blue.  Something closer to my rug color.  You can see that I didn’t mix it up very well.  That was intentional.
Table Finished
Table Painted and Sanded Legs
When the paint was drying, (not completely dry) I began to sand it using a 60 grit, then a 120 grit for a worn look.
FarmHouse Coffee Table
 So far, so good.
Farmhouse Coffee Table Makeover
Now to tackle the gaps.
When I first started this, I wanted the top to look like an old gate.  (Weird? Maybe. But, I knew what I wanted)
Coffe Table Top with Hinges and Dents
When I ordered from Hickory Hardware for my Rustic Chandelier, I also ordered hinges for my coffee table.
Coffee Table Top with Hinges
Once the hinges were screwed in I used my hammer to add some dents and scratches.  You know,  so it looks like a gate.
Farmhouse Coffee Table Makeover
Yes, I am completely satisfied with my Farmhouse Coffee Table Makeover.  Isn’t it always fun when things turn out like you planned?
I am so happy to have you here tonight.
Now sit back, relax and enjoy 24 #BestofDIY Projects with my friends.
Make it a great weekend!

This is a great makeover! LOVE the pretty aqua color you used against the dark wood! And to think this piece started out as a bench and now is a coffee table! Wonderful!!!!

Great makeover Meegan!! I love the wood top! I am trying to add a bit of the warmth of wood back into my decor! I love paint but I miss having some wood tones!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this Meegan! I wish I could wave a magic wand and have my whole house turn into a farmhouse. But alas, my fairy Godmother won’t jump out of Pinterest and make it magically appear. Thanks for sharing this great tutorial :)

You did a great job on this table, Meegan! Love the stained planks! I have plans to do something similar with ours using some old fence pickets I have. Saving it for our rustic themed makeover! Love how you added the hinges too! XO
