Hello Hello! How are you this fine day? I hope you are doing well.
Okay! Let’s get down to business and let me show you How to Make a Shower Curtain Rug.
I promised to share this LOVELY “Shower Curtain” rug with you. Isn’t it lovely? Yep, that’s right-my daughter made it.
After looking several places, my daughter found this beautiful FABRIC (Very important!) shower curtain at Target. It was $20. And exactly what she wanted. Perfect colors and pattern. You could use any of your favorite fabrics, but she LOVED the print, and it was already hemmed and everything!!
First: Iron your shower curtain/fabric. Otherwise you will have wrinkles in your final project. No need to wash your fabric beforehand.

ImTHATCarol says
I was wondering that too. I have an old rug. I was thinking how it needs a new life . Has anyone repurposed older pile type rugs . I’ve been looking but still have not found anything

Well Hellllllloooooo…..
This is such a cool idea! Right now Target has some really great fabric shower curtains and curtain panels. I have used them both to make pillow too. Love this…your daughter did a great job. I just found your blog from Hometalk. Happy to be your newest follower here and fb. Have a great day.

Meegan says
Thanks Kelly! Didn’t it come out great?? Thanks for the follow. Isn’t Hometalk just great??

OMG! I’m a newbie to your BLOG and you already have me stacking up projects to do. But guess that’s one of the reasons I’m here, eh? Yeah! I put down vinyl tile flooring in a room which I thought was going to be my sewing room but realized it would make a nicer guest room instead so have been on the look out for a rug to make the room cosier. Haven’t cared for the prices of most of the larger throw rugs but you’ve given me a great idea so now I’ll be seaching for fabrics to make rugs for guest room. Hey, I also need a rug for my wicker arrangement on the deck now and am I on a roll? You betcha!
Meegan says
I am SO happy to have you here Dottie!! I am excited for you to make a few rugs and let me know all about it!! Thanks for following me!!
Loves!!

This is such a great idea. Does the clear coat make it hard though?
Karen says
I was wondering the same thing. Would the poly Crack if it was folded or bunched? Is it stiff?
Maria says
Great idea!!!
J Zachariah says
How do you clean it?
katy says
This is great! Would it be water proof? I’m considering making one for my bathroom? Thank you for sharing.
Gwen says
I can’t wait to make this. It’s adorable. Last week I bought a shower curtain for my laundry room and the idea I had didn’t work out. Now it’s going to be a rug.
Christina says
What does the rug feel like after all the poly coats? I can’t help but think it would feel hard and uncomfortable.
Meegan says
In the beginning it feels a little “hard” but after a short time it softens up from the wear. You will like it, Christine :)
Enjoy! And let me know if you make one.
Kelly says
This looks like a great idea! I just bought a home with ceramic tile throughout. I don’t want my dining room chairs to scratch up my nice tile so I’m on the lookout for a large rug but they are so EXPENSIVE! Do you think that this kind of rug could withstand the chairs sliding in and out or would it tear?
Thanks!
Kelly

First time visiting . Love you ideas, Thanks so much !
Karen says
Great Idea…rugs can be so expensive…I’m going to start looking for my new rug to make. Thanks!! Karen
Lauren says
Where did you get the flat pile rug to put the shower curtain on?
Meegan says
It was purchased at WalMart :) Have fun making your own rug. I would love to see it when you are done.
Char says
Question…would the polyurethane made it hard? And stiff?
Meegan says
It doesn’t make it hard, because you roll on a thin layer of poly. It is a little stiff, but not uncomfortable.
Robyn says
Could you use Mod Podge to seal it?
Meegan says
I can’t say that would work, because I have never tried it. BUT, I do know they make a water resistant Mod-Podge. I would do some research to make sure before I did that. Good luck and let me know how it turns out.
dany says
This is such a great idea! Im definetely trying this for my porch!! Do you think this is waterproof? I live in Portland and we get a lot of rain here!!
Karen Fuller says
What an amazing idea. The possibilities are endless. I’m so glad I found your site. I got to share it!!!!
mary Colmery says
Do you glue the whole rug or just the sides ? What a great idea thank you !

Meegan says
Use the adhesive for the whole rug and hot glue the sides underneath. Have fun and good luck!
Claudia says
Very creative
vikki says
Beautiful and I must try it..soon
Nancy says
Still going strong since 2012. Looking forward to making kitchen rugs
Kristy says
This may sound dumb, but why do you use the poly on the rug? I was just curious. Thank you for the great idea.
Meegan says
The poly helps adhere the fabric to the rug. Otherwise the fabric will shift and cause wrinkles. It is also very easy to clean with the poly. Just use a wet cloth and Dawn soap and the rug will clean up nicely.
Thanks for asking. I appreciate you stopping by.
Toni @ Small Home Soul says
Meegan, how well did this rug hold up for your daughter? This post is from a few years ago so I’m just curious if it would work on a high traffic area with small dogs.
Meegan says
I am so glad you asked. Yes! The rug is still in great condition.
Jen says
How much for everything?
Jes says
Do you think you could use a bed sheet for this?
Meegan says
I honestly think the fabric would be to thin and the poly would soak through to the rug. You would have dark spots and lighter spots depending on how thick you layer the poly. AND you wouldn’t see the fabric pattern as well. It is a great thought though.
Good luck an have fun.
Donna says
Great idea! I actually used a shower curtain to recover my dining room chair seats and they turned out great. I used scotch guard to keep them looking nice. Will have to try a rug next.
Deb says
Hi i was wondering why did you put the clear on top
