Summer Picnic Indoors

June 20, 2017 By Meegan 10 Comments

A few blogger friends decided to share their own Summer tablescapes. I thought,”Hmmm-what could I do?” My mind was taken to Summer picnics, bar-b-ques, hot dogs, ketchup, mustard, or working in a garden. And then it hit me-a Summer Picnic Indoors. That’s what I will do!

When I was gathering up accessories for the Summer Picnic Indoors, my mind was taken to the movie “A Walk In The Clouds”. The family owns and manages a wine/grape vineyard. In the movie, the family would come in from a long day and a lovely spread of food was waiting for them.

My family doesn’t own a vineyard, but they have always worked very hard. So,why not make a picnic tablescape with with their belongings?

I started with picnic colors-ketchup and mustard of red and yellow. My vintage tablecloth was a gift from a friend. I had to have blue-you know-I LOVE blue. This was the perfect pallet to start with.

The colors were easy to use and create with. Using various fruit, I could easily create a Summer Picnic Indoors with depth and texture.

My Summer Picnic Indoors would include a sun hat, flowers and a galvanized watering can. You know, after working in the vineyard all morning.

With the same colors in the fruit, plates and flatware, I created a cohesive look without overpowering the table.

Each drinking glass was embellished with a strawberry and pineapple chunk. Summer festive and not too much.

For a touch of green, I used boxwood cuttings. Easy and inexpensive, right?

Probably my favorite picture above. It encapsulates the look and feel I was trying to create for a Summer Picnic Indoors. Do you see the ragged hole in the tablecloth? The vintage thermos from my grandpa? The hole in the garden hat? The yellow gingham napkins made by my grandma? It all says a lot about my family. How hard they worked in their lives to bring food to our tables and love to our hearts.

I imagine our family sitting at this Summer Picnic Indoors, talking about the events of the day, the work still needing to be done, and goals for our family.

If you were to create a Summer Picnic Indoors, what would be on your table? What would inspire you from your family?

Thanks for stopping by and letting me share a small piece of my home and creativity.

Working with other bloggers is such a treat. Especially when they are THIS talented. Have fun and enjoy their inspiring Summer tablescapes…

I absolutely love this adorable picnic. You totally nailed the vintage vibe with that gorgeous tablecloth, hat and watering can. I never would have thought the “ketchup and mustard” colours would work with this look, but it is STUNNING! Very creative. Totally pinning this.
