The Monday Blues For Paint Palette

February 24, 2014 By Meegan 8 Comments

I’ve got the Monday Blues for Paint Palette colors.  And I am happy to share them with you today.  It’s always enjoyable to browse through paint stores and aisles at the various colors of paint.  It’s probably one of my fave things to do, besides holding the grandbabies or to hold Hubby’s hand.

I think there are probably guidelines and interior design rules of how many colors you should/could have in your home.  And, if you know me at all, you KNOW I don’t like perfect things.  I like rustic, worn, and chippy, so I guess I don’t follow the interior design rules.  And I am JUST fine with that.

Why?  Well, because I am comfortable in my home, and if more than 3 colors make me smile, then that’s what I am going to use.  To me it’s all about being comfortable in your home.  Don’t you think so, too?

I share my makeovers and ideas with you all the time.  I thought it would be fun to show you the color palette for our home along with various pieces of furniture and accessories.

color-palette-collage labeled

1. Ocean Mist is from Clark and Kensington is the color of one wall in our living room.

2. Summer Sonnet  from Ace Hardware is painted on our bedroom wall and on my thrifted coffee table.

3. Antique Coral is one of the colors on our dining room set and my “bathroom” door.

4. Hint of Olive is from Clark and Kensington at Ace Hardware is on a wall in our TV Room/Office.

5. Snow Cap White is used it to is painted in every room in our home.

6. Shark Loop from Valspar in used on the dining room set and our thrifted buffet.

7. Teal Lake from BHG has been used a few times on makeovers such as my Floating Frame Gallery and my Beach Bench.

8. Another color I use quite often is: Turquoise Mist by Olympic Paint  I have painted several pieces of furniture and accessories using this color.

Often times I mix any one of these colors with white to bring a whole new level of color into our home.  It adds dimension and depth that way.

Turquoise Mist has a special place in my heart.  It is the first can of paint I bought to start transforming our home into a lighter, brighter place to live.  We when moved in our condo, here, everything we owned was dark green, bright red, gold, and even touches of purple.   It was awesome at the time we purchased it, but it was time for me to move on.

These are the colors that make me smile.  They calm my spirit.  They work perfectly in our home.

What colors are your favorite?  What color calms YOUR soul??

Thanks for joining me today while I’ve got the Monday Blues for paint palette.

Make it a blue Monday!

Monday Blues-Lighting the Way

February 10, 2014 By Meegan 4 Comments

Happy Monday!!  I am finally out of bed and rid of the yucky flu that’s hitting everyone!!  Yay!!  Now I have the Monday Blues-Lighting The Way. Well, not exactly.  But you will see what I mean. This ending up being a really fun post for me to photograph and share with you.

Mirrors

I have been looking for months for some lights to drape over my mirror.  I found some at Big Lots.  They are patio lights.  I was so excited to get them home and light the way, per say.

But, to my surprise, they were not white bulbs at all, but colored.  Hmmm…I was disappointed.  I REALLY wanted white.  Well, the blue fit my color scheme, so that’s okay, I guess.

Whoa!  They were ever so slowly changing colors.  Hmmm…I might like these, but I still wasn’t sure.

Mirrors

But watching them change colors was kinda cool.  They were surprising me every few seconds.

From whites, to bues, to pinks, lavender, green and varied colors all at once.  I was falling in love with my new lights.

They are now one of the favorite spots in my home!  Who would have thought, right?  I went in the store looking for white lights and came home with something I like even more.

My Monday Blues-Lighting the Way.  Aren’t they fun, and inviting?  I light them up everytime I know visitors are coming.  It’s a nice ambiance for the whole room.  Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest impact, don’t you think?

Are YOU going to look for some lights to light the way in your home?  I would LOVE to see them!

Thrifted Coffee Table Makeover

January 29, 2014 By Meegan 16 Comments

Happy Wednesday to all of you!!  Are you freezing where you are???  Luckily for me, I am warm and cozy.  AND, I have been busy with painting our room, craft cupboard and now a thrifted coffee table makeover.

We had company over the weekend, and I was able to back and just look at our home.  I saw all of the work I have done of the past 3 1/2 years.  I can honestly say, I am liking the look.

To see more of my living room, check out Jeanette’s blog Country Design Style.  I was a guest on her blog yesterday, and gave a full tour of our living room.  (Thanks Jeanette!!)

Looking mighty fine!!

Before and After Table

Here is a quick picture of before and after.

Last week I went to REstore and found a flat antique white paint (super cheap, I might add!).  It was the exact white I was looking for to paint my thrifted table.  Definitely time for a makeover.

Using a dry brush and the flat antique white paint, I got to work.  I painted over the majority of the table.  Then with sand paper, I started on the next step.

I sanded in various areas on the table.  Then I got a hammer and dented the top of the table.  I know!!  It was really fun to use the back end of my hammer and hit the table top.  Plus, it gives the worn look I want.

The sanding is always fun, too.  I like to see the various colors that come through around the corners and edges.

So here My Thrifted Coffee Table Makeover is in all it’s glory.  Easy peasy and it only took about 2 hours to complete.

Not too bad, right??

Do you have a piece of furniture that you need and/or want to paint?  I would love to hear all about it!!

Thanks for joining me today.  I appreciate and read EVERY comment.

Make it a wonderful Wednesday.

I’ve Got The Monday Blues with Living Room Winter Decor

January 6, 2014 By Meegan 11 Comments

It’s the first Monday in January.  Isn’t that crazy??  Wasn’t I just sharing Thanksgiving ideas and recipes with you?? Today, since we are in the middle of Winter everywhere in the northern hemisphere, I’ve Got The Monday Blues with Living Room Winter Decor.  And I think you will really like it.

Using what I already own, I moved a few things around for a new look in our living room/dining area.

As you walk in to our home and look straight ahead, this is what you will see.

I brought in the large mirror that was in the Office/ TV Room and switched it out with a family frame with pictures of our 7 kids and their families..

I have got to say-I am loving the Winter look in our home.

I thought by removing the Christmas ornaments, it looks more like a Winter feel.

It all started when I was putting together my Winter shelves.

This Winter vignette is on my thrifted buffet which has only been primed.  (My Dad got really sick, Thanksgiving was here, kids were visiting and then it was Christmas.  Hopefully next week I will get to painting it)

Anyway, I kept my crystallized wreath from Christmas, and used my candlesticks as holders for the prettiest white glitter “pine coneish” ornaments.  I just HAD to keep them as part of my Winter look.

The pecan and pine cone garland and the white ceramic birds are rustic enough for Winter, as well.   The little white specs are crystals that resemble ice.

I am in L O V E with the new look here on my vintage cupboard.  I like using the candy canes to add a little red reminder of Christmas and Valentines Day coming soon.

The balance of the clear glass with the mirrors is perfect.  I can still the mirrors without taking away from there beauty.

I used gold paint for  the pecans on my Winter Shelves and I thought silver pecans would look really good with some Epsom salts on this cupboard, too.

Now on to the living room.

I have so much fun filling my Grandpa’s croquet box.  I kept most of the Christmas look along with the vintage blue bottles.  I think it looks great on our thrifted coffee table!!

The wire basket is filled with wood, pine cones and glittered spheres.  (No, I don’t have a fire place.  I am just pretending that I do.)  Weird???

a close up of the croquet box and vintage bottles.  By the way, each bottle was a thrift find.

And yet another look at the croquet box.  Can you tell I am a little obsessed with it???  I love using book page cones, too.  I like filling jars and bottles with them all year long.

So, if you were to enter our home right now, this very day you would know that I’ve Got The Monday Blues with Living Room Winter Decor, right???

PS-I have to give a HUGE shout out to Hubby for the new camera he got me for Christmas!  That’s why my pictures are now clear and detailed!!  Thanks Hubby!!

Thanks everyone for stopping by today and joining me for I’ve Got The Monday Blues with Living Room Winter Decor.  It gets my creative juices going for a whole new post about my thrifted buffet.  (Can’t wait to finish that puppy!!)

Make it a blue Monday!
