Beach Inspired Memory Jar

July 11, 2013 By Meegan 6 Comments

For my whole life I have loved the ocean, collected shells, and always had them in my surroundings.  I keep them in boxes and bottles all over the house.  But, I wanted something a little special for this particular collection.  That’s why I came up with this Beach Inspired Memory Jar.  And it didn’t cost me a penny-love it!

This sand and shells are from our trip to Tahiti, a few years ago.

I wanted to keep them separate from the rest of my shells and sand.

I gathered my shells, twine and a salad dressing bottle. Sounds easy right?

I started with wrapping twine around the bottom of my jar.  I used regular old hot glue to attach both ends to my jar.

I didn’t have a cork to seal my jar, so I wrapped twine into a tight ball.  I was hot gluing along the way, so it wouldn’t come unraveled.

I then filled my jar with sand and shells from the Tahiti trip.  The sand is a mixture of several beaches we went to on each island.

I placed the twine ball inside the jar top, sealing it with, yet again-hot glue.

I attached my lovely sea shell with hot glue as well.  I made sure the was glue on the bottom, and both sides of the shell.  This way, the shell wouldn’t topple over.

Now I have a lovely beach inspired memory jar from our fabulous trip to Tahiti.  Looks just like the ones I have seen while shopping at PB, TJ Maxx, and Ross.  My cost?  Zero.  I had everything already.  I love when that happens!!

Do you have any shells and sand that are special to you?  Do you want to save it in a jar?  Now you know how.  Easy peasy!

Thanks for stopping by today.
