How To Make A Yarn Tassel

February 24, 2015 By Meegan 1 Comment

Happy Tuesday everyone!  I am happy to be here with you on this February day.  It’s cold here.  Is it cold where you are?  I am staying in to keep warm.  But I would love to show you How To Make A Yarn Tassel.  I learn how when I was ten years old from my sweet Mom.  She patiently taught me.  AND, I am so glad she did.

Now I can add yarn tassels to just about anything.

Let me take a few minutes and show you How To Make A Yarn Tassel for yourself.

How To Make a YarnTassel

Yarn Tassel Components

You need 3 things:

Yarn

Scissors

A stiff board

(I used a back from a 5×7  frame.)

Yarn Tassel Directions

I wrapped the yarn around the board 40 times.  Each time around the board counted as one time.

Yarn Tassel Instructions

Using a 5 inch piece of yarn, I tied the yarn strips with a square knot (right over left, left over right)

Next, I flipped the board over and cut the center of the wrapped yarn.  It’s okay if it isn’t perfect.  You can always “trim”  it up later.

Tasseldirections

Once you remove the card your tassel will look like this.  You are almost done.

Tasselinstructions

Gather all of the tassel together, leaving the “tie” separate from the rest of the tassel.

Using another 5 inch piece of yarn,  and about 1 1/2 inches down, tie another square knot (right over left, left over right)
