Happy Tuesday everyone! I am happy to be here with you on this February day. It’s cold here. Is it cold where you are? I am all snuggled in to keep warm. It’s the perfect day for crafting and to show you How To Make A Yarn Tassel. I learned how when I was ten years old from my sweet Mom. She patiently taught me. AND, I am so glad she did.
Now I can add yarn tassels to just about anything. Clothing, crafts, blankets, pillows and more!
Let me take a few minutes and show you How To Make A Yarn Tassel for yourself.
You need 3 things:
5 yards of Yarn, cotton string or embroidery thread (in this tutorial I am using yarn)
A stiff board or cardboard (I used a back from a 5×7 frame.)
I wrapped the yarn around the board 40 times. Each time around the board counted as one time.
Using a 5 inch piece of yarn, I tied the yarn strips with a square knot (right over left, left over right)
Next, I flipped the board over and cut the center of the wrapped yarn. It’s okay if it isn’t perfect. You can always “trim” it up later.
Once you remove the card your tassel will look like this. You are almost done.
Gather all of the tassel together, leaving the “tie” separate from the rest of the tassel.
Using another 5 inch piece of yarn, and about 1 1/2 inches down, tie another square knot (right over left, left over right)
TA DA! You have made your own yarn tassel!
Now you can add them to gifts, hang on pillows or throws, make a tassel banner, use them as curtain ties, hang them on a lamp or vase, etc…
Learning How To Make a Yarn Tassel is easy, fun and there are SO many colors and various types of yarn, string, or embroidery thread you could choose from. I think you are going to be hooked.
I hope today has been enjoyable, and you have learned something new.
Below I am sharing a few more ideas using my homemade tassels. Enjoy!
Make it a great day!
