My Thrifty Style

June 14, 2017 By Meegan 13 Comments

If you were to ask me, “What do you like to shop for when you go thrifting?” I would have to say, “Blue or green bottles and jars.” There is something about the colors, the shapes, the tones and their vintage stories that intrigue my thrifty style.

I know that might sound a little different, but I can see a vision for a home decor style in each bottle or jar.

Whether I fill the vessels with fresh greenery…

and place them in a vintage French crate, the vintage bottles add a new life to our home. The color, the curves, the galvanized clasps and worn edges add personality to what would otherwise be a pretty dull area.

The fun thing about My Thrifty Style is that I can use vintage, thrifted bottles all year long.

During the Spring when the cherry blossoms have bloomed, I head outside with my clippers and cut as many branches as would fill my arms.

I then gather the blue and green bottles to use as vases. Tying a few with scraps of old lace and hankies, dresses them up and adds to My Thrifty Style home.

When fresh flowers aren’t available, I fill my vessels with faux peonies. I think they add a fresh life and color to our office, don’t you?

Another simple, easy and effective way to use the blue and green bottles is to fill them with sticks. Again, I went outside and cut some branches off our trees.

Last year when we visited an apple grove, there were LOTS of apple tree sticks lying on the ground. The red colors and twisted branches were exactly what I was looking for. Well, besides the crisp, fresh apples.

Once I got home I could not wait to fill the bottle and jars with my apple grove finds. Yet again, another inexpensive, creative way for My Thrifty Style.

Before I forget, did I mention that I never spend more than a dollar on each one? NEVER. I guess that is another reason I hunt for the green or blue bottles and jars.

Thanks for joining me and letting me share one of my hobbies with you. It is always a treat to have you here.

Today is my very first day on THE Thrifty Style Team. I am excited and honored to be a part of this talented group of bloggers.

I know exactly what you mean! I don’t have a collection of blue and green glass decor yet but I am always drawn to it when I see it. For me, the colors are so calming and tranquil. You have created truly beautiful displays with yours.
