Romancing The Bedroom Furniture

February 19, 2014 By Meegan 27 Comments

It’s a wonderful month for romance, isn’t it?  Yesterday was the anniversary of my first date with Hubby.  That was 37 years ago!  I KNOW!  Craziness.  And absolutely wonderful. With trying to keep up the romance in our marriage it’s important that we feel BOTH feel comfortable in our home.

So before I even started a blog, I decided I would be romancing the bedroom furniture.
This bedroom set is my grandparents.  I remember seeing in their bedroom when I was growing up.
The furniture was in it’s original condition when I receieved it.  I had thought about painting it several times, but didn’t dare “ruin” the look.
But then, as I wanted to add some lighter touch in our small home, I decided to crack open a can of paint and start romancing my bedroom furniture.
The color I chose was Turquoise Mist by Olympic.
I didn’t want to make it look new, but worn as was the style of the furniture.  So I gave it a dry bush coat of paint..  So far, so good.
Using an Antique White Flat paint, I painted the drawers with the contrast color.
As you can see, I also recovered the vanity bench.  Much better!
I liked the vanity so much, I painted the chest of drawers.  It looks beautiful on Hubby’s side of the bed, doesn’t it?

I LOVE the patina of the handles, so I didn’t touch them at all.

I have since painted the whole room.
Above our bed, I have a quote my Hubby said from our first date on.  You can find the full story here.  I think romancing the bedroom furniture has worked out well for me, don’t you??

Love what you did with the furniture. It really highlights the style and beautiful curves of it. The handles are more of a feature against the whit, too. Really enjoy following you. My husband and I have also been married 37 years! I follow many blogs, but it seems like the majority are younger women. Well, younger than me, ahem. Glad to connect with a classy ” classic” like you! I hope this doesn’t come off strange….

I love the color you chose for your furniture- definitely romantic! I’m also glad that you left the handles alone. They look great with the little peeks of wood showing through in some places.

Meegan, Your furniture looks stunning now! My furniture definitely needs some romancing as well and would hopefully also kick off an entire room remodel! I love how you added the quote above the bed, so special.

Well, you certainly outdid yourself! These pieces are more than beautiful! The colors and aged, worn look of them are fantastic! Goes without saying, but of course I pinned! :)

Love what you did in the bedroom. Love the blue with the white. Keeping the handles original was perfect because it gives a contrast to the whole dresser and makes it pop. So beautiful!! Love it!
