Thanksgiving Traditions-Pie Night

November 7, 2014 By Meegan 3 Comments

Happy Friday! Welcome to a wonderful day fill with Thanksgiving Traditions. A handful of my blogging friends. and I want to share our Thanksgiving Traditions with you. I always like to see what others incorporate in the holidays and their own family traditions, don’t you?

I am excited to share our NEW tradition with you today…

When we moved to Las Vegas, all of our kids were either married or had moved out of the house already.  Yep, we were empty nesters.  And even though we want to spend Thanksgiving with our kids, it isn’t always possible.  They have work, college, small children and lives of their own.  Besides the fact that 6 out of 7 of our children live out of state.

Our local friends are always quick to invite us over.  They are SO nice.  Of course we still miss our kiddos, but we make the best of what we have.

Four years ago, my sweet friend Tracy invited us over for Thanksgiving Eve.  She explained, not to have dinner, but come over for “Pie Night”.  Huh?  No dinner, just pie?

Pie Night

Yep, we went to eat just pie.  What kind of pie, you ask?

Pumpkin pie

Coconut Cream Pie

Peanut Butter Pie

Lemon Cream Pie with Raspberries

Lemon Cream Pie

Berry Pie

Cheesecake

Chocolate Pie

French Silk Pie from Scratch

French Slik Pie

Peach Pie

Pecan Pie

with lots and lots of fresh whipped cream

I arrive at Tracy’s home about 8 in the morning of Thanksgiving Eve.  Her niece is there to help us make all the crusts, fillings and topping from scratch.  We use all fresh ingredients with the finest vanilla, whip cream, eggs, and shortening in the pie crust.

Our work wasn’t through until late afternoon.

Once the pies are finished, cooled, chilled and toppings on them…We sit for a few hours before the guests arrive.

Tracy has invited her whole extended family, neighbors, friends and their kids.  There are between 40 and 50 people over for Pie Night. Then we dig in!  It’s amazing how good pie is instead of dinner, isn’t it?  Our bellies are filled. And our hearts are full with acquaintances, that now have become friends.

As I passed Tracy at church two weeks ago, she said, “Pie Night! Will you be here? Invite your kids if they are in own.”

Hubby and I love this new Thanksgiving Tradition and hope to one day incorporate it in our own family.

What Thanksgiving Traditions do you have in your family?  Is it a recipe, centerpiece, tablecloth, special glasses?

Do YOU think YOU would ever have a Pie Night?  If you do, I would LOVE to be invited!!

Please visit all of my friends and their Thanksgiving Traditions today.  I KNOW you will be inspired and enjoy each and everyone.

Make it a thankful Friday.

Pie night??? Can I come?? I’ll make the crust :) I love this idea and might be one we could adapt in our family. Every Thanksgiving is different for us. But this is easy to pull off. Thanks ~Jeanette
