Six Easy Fall Decor Ideas

September 3, 2013 By Meegan 26 Comments

Oh my!!  Fall is upon us.  The skies are filled with clouds and the weather is cooling down (well, a little). I thought it would be fun to share with you  Six Easy Fall Decor Ideas.

Last year I chose to decorate my bookshelves and my kitchen shelves as a focal point. I decided to use traditional Fall colors in my living room and my bookshelf.  Then I gathered blues, browns and whites on my kitchen shelves for a whole different look. Using 2 different colors and styles, you can see how easy, simple and creative Fall decor can be.

My first choice is going with all whites, browns and a touch of blue (you know how I love blue!)

DIY Personalized Beach Art

August 14, 2013 By Meegan 4 Comments

Last week I did a Guest Post for my friend Barbara at Chase the Star.  I am so excited to share it with you here today, too!

I love anything DIY, don’t you?  I had so much fun making this DIY Personalized Beach Art.  I saw something similar at a farmer’s market a few weeks ago, and I could get it out of my head.  So I gathered my essentials and started to work.

I thought I would share my DIY Personalized Beach Art with you today.DIY Personalized Beach ArtThis is my DIY Personalized Beach Art.  It’s really easy, rustic and looks great in any home.

(Easy and looks great are what I love!)

DIY Personalized Beach Art1.I bought a frame at the thrift store for $3.  Not my choice of picture-But I am ready to fix that.

I turned over the print and used the backside for my DIY Personalized Beach Art.  You could do the same for some of your vacation spots or places you’ve lived.  Use your imagination and have fun!

2. I got out all of my fave colors of paint, along with all of my stencils.  I love blues and some greens.  Perfect for beach art, right?

3.Using the lighter colors and a sponge brush I painted the background.  It’s not smooth or perfect.  Just fun.  I used antique gray as the main base color, with other colors coming through.  After the paint was almost dry, I got to work with my stencils, again using my sponge brush.  I began listing all of our favorite beaches, so it would be personalized.  Using different sizes, fonts and colors I went to work.

4.I didn’t want it perfect.  I left most of my imperfections.  I wanted it to be a piece of beach art.  As you can see with the lighter colors I outlined with a pen.  Yep, a regular green ink pen.

This is a closer look, so you can see the imperfectness of this project. Exactly what I wanted.

On some of the beach/island names I layered the stencil, for an older, worn look.

Another close up, so you can see that I didn’t clean up a few of my messes.  Then it was looking a little worn.  Again, exactly what I wanted.

And here she is.  My own DIY Personalized Beach Art. I love it.  I hope you will make one soon and let me know all about it!

Do you have vacation spots, places you have traveled, or even places you have lived that you could make your own piece of art?  I bet you do, and I would love to see them asap…

Thanks for joining me today.  It is always a pleasure to have you here.

Make it a great day!

I have a fetish for empty frames.  I have them everywhere.  I really like the idea of the openness and the fact that I can hang anything on them with a simple painted clothes pin.

My coffee table was $10 at the thrift store.  She is one of my faves.  The tray was a thrift find for $3!!  I know!  I was SO excited!!

My kitchen shelves are always filled with thrift finds and/or shells because of my love of the ocean.

I found this shutter for 5 bucks and made her look old.  Not too shabby, huh?

I love using book pages to decorate.  Actually, you might say I have an obsession. (PS-the frame was brand new at the thrift store for $7!!-SCORE!)

My Fleur Box Succulent Makeover

August 6, 2013 By Meegan 7 Comments

[slideshow_deploy id=’4254′]

I am so excited to be here today!  I am also happy to show you my fleur box succulent makeover.  Whew-this has been a long time coming.  I have pondered about this box a lot and finally came up with a solution.  I hope you like it and are inspired to makeover a fleur box or basket you might have.

fleur box succulent makeover

fleur box succulent makeoverThis is what I started out with.  A box full of sticks, pots, shells, moss balls, a bird’s nest, etc..  Junk, really.  It was all there but with no composition, rhyme, or reason.

My Fleur Box Succulent MakeoverI was a HL today and spotted these lovelies.  I know, I am not a fan of fake flowers-at all.  Ask the brides I help.  Ugh!  BUT, succulents almost look fake at times, don’t they?  Well, these fake succulents look real enough to me to use them in my fleur box.  Woo!

My Fleur Box Succulent MakeoverSo I pulled my new components together.  Succulents, moss balls, shredded paper, and a grapevine ball I found for a $1 while thrifting.  Yes!  I was ready to start.

My Fleur Box Succulent MakeoverI used the shredded paper as my “dirt” or foundation.  This is a good start.

My Fleur Box Succulent MakeoverI began placing my moss balls, and succulents in their new home.  Don’t they look happy?

My Fleur Box Succulent MakeoverThe shredded paper is the perfect background for the green moss and the succulents.   The grapevine ball even shows up better.  I am loving this new look for my fleur box succulent makeover.

My Fleur Box Succulent MakeoverI also painted the front of the fleur box blue to have a fresh look to go with the fleurs box succulent makeover.

My Fleur Box Succulent MakeoverWow!  What a difference!  Once what was a drab box is now full of color and appeal.  I am loving this new look for my fleur box succulent makeover.

Do you have something similar that you could freshen up?  It’s not hard at all.  Just use your imagination, and items that you like.  This will bring your space new life and appeal.  Best of all, it will make you smile!

NOW  Day 2 of the Getting Creative at Home Blog Tour!!  Didn’t you just love the tours yesterday??  So much talent and creativity!   I can hardly wait to visit the Getting Creative At Home blog tour, too!  And there is so much more to come…
