How to Make a Felt Heart Topiary

February 6, 2025 By Meegan Leave a Comment

For something special and unique at your next party or event, learn How to Make a Felt Heart Topiary.

They can be as simple or as elegant as YOU want. From the vessel, such as a peat pot or tea cup, to felt or satin. It’s all up to you.

So easy to make! Perfect for a Baby or Bridal Shower, Wedding reception, Valentine’s Day, or Tea Party. Even cute as a party favor. Add embellishments for YOUR style.

What You Will Need:

Peat Pots

Skewers

Tea Cups

Tea Saucers

Heart Cookie Cutter

Cardboard (I used a piece from a delivery box)

Disappearing Marker for Fabric

Felt

Reindeer Moss

Hot Glue Gun

Hot Glue Sticks

Styrofoam

Twine/Jute

Paper Wrapped Wire

Ribbon or Lace

Small Silk or Paper Flowers

Let’s get started…

With your cookie cutter, outline a heart onto a piece of cardboard. Cut it out.

Using the cardboard as a pattern, cut out TWO felt hearts, the same size.

Be sure to use a disappearing ink pen for fabric. So you won’t have ink marks.

Hot glue a felt heart to EACH side of the cardboard heart.

Then put the skewer through the tip of the cardboard. You may want to glue it for added security.

To “hide” the cardboard-with hot glue, adhere twine along the edge of the heart. It looks cute and hides the cardboard at the same time.

For a tiny decorative touch, glue a small paper flower to the middle of the heart.

With a narrow ribbon, wrap the skewer. Then tie a “shoelace” bow just below the heart.

Cut a small piece of styrofoam to fit snug in the peat pot. At this point, you can add marbles, rocks to the bottom of the peat pot to prevent the topiary from falling over too easily.

Glue a strip of ribbon around the top of the peat pot. Not necessary, but it adds more texture.

Secure the skewer into the styrofoam and fill with reindeer moss with as much as YOU like.

You can also use this same idea in a tea cup for a whole new look.

There is also a quick and easy tutorial on how to make a Moss Heart Topiary. You can combine them, add paper flowers, ribbon bows, jute twine, or even jewelry pieces for a little glam.

I hope you have had some fun and have been inspired to make your own Felt Heart Topiary. And if you do, please leave a comment here, on Facebook or Instagram.
