Hey everyone! It is a beautiful day. Perfect for baking my Soft Sugar Cookie Recipe. These cookies are decedent, made with REAL butter, vanilla and almond extract. Pure, perfect soft sugar cookie perfection. (Say that TEN times in a row) I have been making these for years. One time I tried making a different soft sugar recipe for my family, and they were so disappointed.

That was proof enough for me to keep to the old standard Soft Sugar Cookie Recipe.

Lipton Tea with Sugar Cookies For Dessert

Not only do I have a Soft Sugar Cookie recipe for you, I have a few tips to keep your cookies soft and evenly baked.

{Meegan’s Soft Sugar Cookie Recipe}

Mix thoroughly:

1 cup REAL butter

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

1 egg

1 tsp REAL vanilla

1/2 tsp REAL almond extract

Blend in:

2 1/2 cups flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp cream of tartar

Cover; chill 2 to 3 hours.

Heat oven at 375*

Divide dough in half. Roll each half 3/16 inch thick on lightly floured counter or cutting board. Cut into desired shapes.  At this time you could sprinkle with granulated sugar, if desired. Place on lightly greased baking sheet.

Bake 7-8 minutes or until light brown around the edges.

Meegan’s Tip for perfectly baked Soft Cookie Recipe:

For evenly baked cookies-make sure your shapes are the same size.

As you can see I like to frost my soft sugar cookies.

To keep your Soft Sugar Cookies soft:

After they have cooled, place them in a zip-lock bag or an air tight container.

This works best after they have been frosted. The moisture in the frosting keeps them soft.

My Soft Sugar Cookie Recipe has been a family favorite for over 35 years now. I hope it becomes one of yours too!

Thanks for stopping by for a visit. I really appreciate it.

Happy Baking!
