How To Store and Rotate Honey

April 30, 2014 By Meegan 7 Comments

I have a wonderful tip on How To Store and Rotate Honey.  It’s simple easy and just takes a little organization.

I don’t know about you, but I like to keep a food storage supply on hand.  I like to buy in bulk and keep rotating through it.  Then that way we always have the freshest food and still have a food storage supply.

Most of us keep our honey in the cupboard, right?  As long as I can remember that is was we have always done.

Did you know you can keep your honey in your refrigerator?  Yep, you sure can!  Just take it out about 24 hours before you need to use it, so it can soften up.  Cool, huh?

Did you know you can freeze honey???  I didn’t either.  But, yes, you can!  Awesome, right?

How To Store and Rotate Honey

I have given you 3 ways to store your honey.  Now,  How To Rotate Honey.

It works like this:

Buy 3 containers of honey.  Any size or type of honey.  We like creamed honey.  (YUM!)

I keep one in the freezer all the time.

I have one in the refrigerator all the time.

I keep the 3rd container on my pantry shelf.

*When the honey on the shelf runs out, I take out the honey in the refrigerator and place it in the pantry.

*I then take the honey out of the freezer and put it in the refrigerator.

*I purchase another container of honey to keep in the freezer.

Honey never really goes bad, it just crystallizes.  Did you know that honey has even been found in Egyptian tombs. It’s crystallized, BUT it can be warmed up and used.  Honey never spoils.

How To Store and Rotate Honey is a good way to keep track of your food storage.

I hope you have learned a new and useful tip today!

My daughter and I were just talking about honey tonight. She read online that it doesn’t go bad…she had recently thrown away our honey because she thought it wasn’t good anymore.

I love your storage rotation idea!

Great tips Meegan! We are bee-keepers so I have a lot of honey and I just keep all mine in our wine cellar – it doesn’t get too hot or too cold down there.
