I love to bake goodies for my special Valentines. Whether it’s for my husband, family, neighbors or friends. My favorite decadent gift is my recipe for Valentine Candy Filled Surprise Cookies.
There are SO many variations of this cookie recipe. It’s all about what YOU like and your baking creations.
This month’s Thrifty Style Team has come together celebrating Valentine’s Day by sharing 12 Valentine’s Day Desserts. This post is hosted by Julie at Redhead Can Decorate.

This recipe for Valentine Candy Filled Surprise Cookies is a fun way to make a fresh “from scratch” treat for any holiday or celebration. Just make the frosting colors that match your event. Such as at Christmas, use red, green, white or blue. Valentine’s Day, use pink, like I have today. The ideas are endless.
Valentine Candy Filled Surprise Cookies
Cookie Ingredients:
1/2 cup real butter, softened
3/4 cup confectioners or powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon real vanilla
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon salt
M&Ms, maraschino cherries, chocolate chips, Spanish peanuts, nuts, dates or your own favorite filling ( I used semi-sweet chocolate chips in my recipe, today.)
Icing Ingredients:
1 cup confectioners or powdered sugar
2 1/2 Tablespoons light cream OR 1 1/2 Tablespoons whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
If desired, stir in a few drops of food coloring
Your favorite festive candy or colorful sprinkles
Directions:
Heat oven to 350*
Mix thoroughly butter, sugar, and vanilla.
Work in flour and salt until dough holds together. (If dough is too dry, mix in 1 to 2 Tablespoons light cream.)
Mold dough by Tablespoonfuls around your candy, cherries or chocolate pieces.
Place cookies 1 inch apart on un-greased baking sheet.
Bake 12-15 minutes or until set, but not brown.
*While cookies are baking, make your icing*
Mix 1 cup confectioners sugar, 2 1/2 tablespoons light cream and 1 teaspoon vanilla until smooth. I mix my icing with a fork.
Divide icing into 2 or 3 bowls. Add drops of food coloring into each bowl for desired colors.
I make however many colors for each various type of cookies I have.
IE; Red for maraschino cherries, Pink for Chocolate Chips, White for M&Ms. You can color code them to your own preference. This is also a good way to keep track of which cookies have what center filling.
*When cookies are cooled dip tops of cookies into icing.
Decorate with sprinkles, coconut, candies, or colored sugar
These Valentine Candy Filled Surprise Cookies are a fun and delicious way to treat your favorite Valentine(s). My grand-kiddos LOVE them. I hope you enjoy them as much as my family does.

Good old-fashioned, real cookies and then there’s a surprise inside too. Now that’s my kind of treat. I’ve shared the recipe with my daughter, coz she’s the baker in this house and I can’t wait to see what she puts inside.
