Cottage Style Home

First of all, welcome to our cottage in the Desert. Well, actually it is a condo in the middle of the Las Vegas desert. BUT I have tried to create a Cottage Style Home furnished with vintage and thrifted finds.

Welcome to what we like to call home…

As we have lived in our Cottage Style Home for 6 years now, it has been a slow and creative process to get to this point.

As you walk upstairs you will be invited by my red (thrifted and painted) chair. During the Summer months the porch is filled reminders of family visits and the clear blue ocean.

Red Chair on A Summer Porch

Living Room Makeover

I have wanted a tufted sofa for a few years. My hubby bought me this as a Mother’s Day gift from RC Willey. I feel in love immediately, as this is JUST THE color I have wanted. And the size is perfect for our tiny living room.

Living Room Cottage Style

The small table is a garage sale find. With a little wood, glue and paint I was able to add a farmhouse look to add texture in our home.

Living Room View

Also as part of the living room furnishings we have 2 chairs. The abstract blue one is again from RC WILLEY and the rattan chair was as a steal of a deal from Salvation Army.

Plate Gallery by What Meegan Makes

Opposite of our chairs, hangs our plate gallery wall. Again, more thrifted finds. And I didn’t pay more than a dollar for any of them. Not too shabby, right?

Collage Wall in Living Room

Above our thrifted 1970s stereo is a gallery wall filled with several thrifted frames, and mirrors along with family mementos.

1970s Vintage Stereo Makeover by meeganmakes.com

The next thrifted piece IS the 1970s stereo. Another amazing steal of a deal. This time from Deseret Industries. By a steal of a deal, I mean $35, and it works perfectly!

Crystal Ladder

Hanging above our living room window is a vintage style ladder from Decor Steals. The crystals are from thrifts shops and Habitat for Humanity. While the sun is setting, the crystals shine on the walls with prisms of light. The tiny fairy lights look pretty all year long.

Breakfast Nook by meeganmakes.com

Behind the tufted sofa in our breakfast nook. This small space is styled with ALL thrifted furniture.

Thrifted Buffet for a Breakfast Nook

A thrifted buffet with shutter doors. Who could resist, right? I love this cottage look for our home.

Spring Decorating with Silver and Blue Glass Insulators

After purchasing each piece, I took my paint brush to each one. This way it added to our Cottage Style Home. PS- the piece above was on it’s way to the dump, when I directed my friends to drop it off at my home. Sight unseen.

White Fall Shelves

My shelves are in-between the kitchen and the breakfast nook. It won’t be long until I can show you the full kitchen. I will probably create a new look soon.

Everything on the shelves is either thrifted or found at a steal of a deal cost. ( Including the candle sticks) I have started collecting silver trays and chalices. The silver creates a beautiful statement piece, don’t you?

Vintage-Mirror-with-Gold-Accents

After walking past the shelves, you will enter our master bedroom. The furniture was passed down from my grandparents. rather than the original stain-I painted it to add a softer look in our cottage style bedroom.

Mantel as a Headboard

My “mantel” is a large shelf that I found at a garage sale and a roadside window.

Living Room Book Shelves

And finally, as you head back towards the front door, you will see another bedroom, which we have turned into an office, TV room and craft area. It is very small, so we are trying to add as much personality as we can.

Living Room Collage

Our book case is filled with memories of trips, family mementos and of course, shells.

Rustic-Desk-Makeover

We have had our computer desk for YEARS! After a little paint and stenciling, we now have a creative look for our “office”.

Decoupage-Bookcase

I found this book case at Target and decoupaged vintage book pages all over it. It adds an emphasis for on a masculine feel and some texture.

DIY Rustic Shelves

After looking for shelves for above our wall-length closet, I finally made my own with simple instructions. I like the rustic wood.

In conclusion, thanks for joining me for our Cottage Style Home tour. It has been a treat for me to prepare and write this blog post for you.

I hope you have been inspired and will come back again soon. Make it a wonderful day!

What a sweet cottage Meegan. I love all the touches of blue (my favourite colour too) and your hand painted furniture. The kaleidoscope of thrifted finds and family mementoes tie it all together to create the sweetest desert cottage. BTW… love your tufted sofa!! Hugs – Kerryanne xx
