While the Summer is coming on, I have been busy getting my cottage ready to enjoy with some Creative Back Porch Ideas. I usually am NOT a green thumb. But this year I am having some good luck. (Fingers crossed!)
With just a few touches of vintage charm, new ceramic pots and a little creativity, I now have a cottage style porch to enjoy all year long.
I started out with this porch. It’s much bigger than our last condo cottage balcony. (Thank heavens!)
With just a little cleaning up I was ready to get started.
As you walk out the back door to the porch, you will spot my bicycle rim seed wreath. This could not be any easier to make.
With seeds from Walmart and clothes pins I was able to make a simple Summer wreath. I have a few more ideas on decorating this rim for Summer, so stay tuned…
Since I have had a lot of time at home recently, I ventured out to my local Star Nursery for ideas and inspiration.
There was everything from tropical, desert, and plants from Australia or Mexico to choose from. Like the Australian kangaroo paw pictured above.
Plants I haven’t even seen before to typical garden flowers like petunias.
The new ceramic pots are from my local Winco. I patiently waited and the prices went down to just $10 a piece. Can I tell you how excited I was? I wanted all of them, but there honestly isn’t enough room on this small back porch. Maybe next time?
Adding some vintage pieces in-between each plant gives personality. Like this wooden birdhouse.
I bought this with pink and coral blossoms on the Cuphea Honeybells to attract hummingbirds. They have been blooming for over a month now. They brighten my mornings when I go out to water and feed my plants.
Near the sliding glass door I have placed a plant stand holding my topiary with fig vines.
Did you notice the hummingbird ornament? It is a gift from my sweet 8 yr old grand-daughter. She knows how much I love hummingbirds and picked this out just for me. You can read all about my sweet reason and love of these birds here.
The “sunflower” brick was painted by my daughter when she was about 6 years old. Today happens to be her 35th birthday. So this holds sentimental value to me. It is just as sweet as can be.
This plant stand was made and stenciled by my mother years ago. I love the fact that she signed it. It means the world to me. It doesn’t hold monetary value, but could never be replaced.
This small ceramic pot is also a gift from my mother. The book was from my husband years ago when we were planning our landscape for our newly built home in California. See my house plans here.
My husband LOVES cactus, so how could I NOT add one to the Creative Back Porch Ideas. With a southwest style clay pot from Smiths grocery store, it adds character and definition to the porch.
To make your own Creative Back Porch Ideas you don’t have to purchase new accessories, plant stands, or wreaths. Use what you have and freshen it up with your innovative ideas. Have fun and enjoy the process.
I will have more creative porch ideas coming soon with my thrifted buffet. I am excited to share more cottage porch ideas with you!
Make it a lovely day in your garden. Whether it’s on your tiny porch or acres of land.

I could spend hours on your porch soaking up nature. How beautiful Meegan and all those little mementos make it such a special spot to just “BE”
