Orange Cream Cheese Cookie Recipe

December 21, 2016 By Meegan Leave a Comment

My Orange Cream Cheese Cookie Recipe has been a staple in our home for over 30 years. Even though we traditionally make them at Christmas time, they are delicious all year long.

The fresh orange zest and the cream cheese frosting are what makes this recipe so special.

{Orange Cream Cheese Cookie Recipe}

Ingredients:

2 1/4 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup vegetable shortening (I use 1/2 butter 1/2 shortening)

1 cup granulated sugar

1-3 oz package cream cheese

2 eggs

2 teaspoons orange juice

1 teaspoon grated orange zest

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350*.

Lightly grease cookie sheets.

Sift flour and salt onto wax paper. Although you may want to skip this step-it really DOES make this cookie lighter and more fluffy.)

Beat shortening and/or butter, sugar, and cream cheese until mixed.

Beat in eggs, one at a time.

Add fresh orange juice and zest.

Drop dough by rounded teaspoons 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheets.

Bake in preheated oven for about 12 minutes or until lightly browned edges.

Cool on racks.

Spread tops with with icing (recipe below).

Garnish with orange zest, if you wish.

Orange Icing Recipe:

Gradually beat 2 cups confectioners sugar with 3 oz. softened cream cheese until well blended.

Stir in 1 teaspoon orange juice and 1 tsp orange zest.

Another variation for this cookie recipe would be to add 6 oz. chocolate chips to the cookie dough before baking. It gives an orange truffle flavor to your Orange Cream Cheese cookie recipe.

I hope you will try and add this Orange Cream Cheese Cookie Recipe in your next baking session and file.

Your friends and family will enjoy this cake like cookie, along with it’s cream cheese flavor and soft, light frosting. With a cup of tea in the evening it is the perfect way to end a day.

Thank you so much for joining me today. I am always happy to have you here with me.
