We were out in the desert hiking through the gorgeous red clay mountains just outside of Las Vegas. My cute grand daughter found a rustic stick and gave it to me. My grand kids know me so well. If it’s old, a rock, sea shell, or stick, I want it. I know, that is kinda silly of me. But, it is what I like and I LOVE that each and every one of the kids in my family know that. Once I got said stick home, I knew that I was going to make a DIY Drift Wood and Crystal Sun Catcher Tutorial for you.

I pulled out my supplies:

1 driftwood stick

hot glue sticks

I cut the fishing line at various lengths. Anywhere from 24-36 inch lengths. I didn’t want to have them the same length. But when you make yours, whatever you like is perfect.

Once the fishing line was cut, I looped them through each crystal hole or loop.

Tying the fishing line to the piece of driftwood, with the crystal attached, was the next step.

Now that the fishing line had been tied, it was time to attach the line to the driftwood with hot glue.

You could also use super glue, instead. Definitely your preference.

I used the hot glue to adhere the fishing line in place. I tried NOT doing this and the crystals slid all over. I was unable to keep the driftwood balanced and the crystals hanging in place.

The last step for creating my DIY Drift Wood and Crystal Sun Catcher Tutorial was to attach the 20 gauge wire to the driftwood stick. I will be using this as a hanger.

I wrapped approximately 6 inches of the wire around each end of the piece of driftwood.-pulling it tighter as I wrapped.

My original thought was to hang the Sun Catcher in the archway of the back porch. BUT the wind blows REALLY hard here and I was a little worried about it blowing down.

I know, maybe a little too worrisome. But I felt better about this hanging on the French door to the porch. This way it is more protected from the elements and I can bring it in, if necessary.

I love how it looks from both inside OR outside the apartment.

PLUS, as the sun goes down, the prisms are rainbows throughout my apartment cottage. Oh my goodness! It makes me so happy to watch them as they “travel” as the sun is setting.
